Brand New User- burning too slowly?

slk321

Question

Hi, I've just started using Toast so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I'm burning 4 DivX files onto a 4.76G DVD using the standard DVD video option. I wasn't sure if my DVD player (or how common it is for most DVD players) would support DivX discs. It's been burning for 2.5 hours and it's only 24% complete. Is that normal or am I doing something wrong? Thanks!!

Is it burning or is it encoding?

What you're doing requires the video to be re-encoded to MPEG 2 before the burning can begin.

How long (in hours/minutes) are your videos and how fast is your Mac?

Most DVD players don't support DivX discs and some of those that do require the DivX video to be on CD-R media. Oftentimes it is the lower-cost players that have DivX playback capability. If you are going to be doing this a lot you may want to get one of those players and just burn DivX discs.

Thanks for the response, tsantee! hmmm I thought it was burning? I dragged the files into the screen and then hit the red button. I assumed that meant it was burning, but from what you're saying it sounds like it could still be encoding? All I see is the box telling me it's now 43% complete. The 4 files are about 210 minutes worth of video and I have an Ibook G4 80GB 4200 RPM harddrive. Sounds like this is just the normal case for trying to convert DivX flies to DVD? good to know. Thinking I'm going to need to come up with an alternative in the future.
