Media Import won't select DVD as source, but will for audio

trint99

Question

This is a weird one.

We had two cameras on a mission trip. Mine's a miniDV and my friend's is a mini DVD. I have imported all my video via firewire with no problems using Media Import (Roxio Easy Media Creator 9). His camcorder does not have a fire wire port, so I decided to finalize the DVD and pull from there.

On the video tab, the DVD drive shows up...

But when I select it, nothing changes. The screen remains the same asking me to select a device.

Out of desperation I tried the audio tab. Again, the DVD drive shows up...

When I select the DVD from the audio menu, it works. in fact, it displays all the chapters and a thumbnail from the first chapter.

If I select a chapter and hit the "Play" button, a video player pops up and actually plays the video from the DVD. Now, if Importer can see the DVD and even play it, why won't it select it in the video import tab?

Help! I'm on a tight schedule to get this video ready to show the church.

...Stick the disc in your computer drive, and copy the files to the hard drive, open VideoWave, and bring the files in for editing, along with the .avi file that you captured from your MiniDV tape.

Thanks Bruce. What files do you mean? The VOBs from the VIDEO_TS or what?

Copy the folders and files, the way they are, on the mini DVD. Open VideoWave, click on Add Photo/Video, then browse the the folders, and I think you just click on the Video_TS folder, and it should find all of the .vobs. You will be prompted to select one or all of them. You want to select all of them.

If you finalized the disc, there is no reason to capture, at all. Stick the disc in your computer drive, and copy the files to the hard drive, open VideoWave, and bring the files in for editing, along with the .avi file that you captured from your MiniDV tape.
