Viacom's Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation SKG will release their next-generation DVD titles exclusively on HD DVD ahead of what they say could be the biggest holiday season ever for DVDs.

Paramount had sold titles in both the new high-definition formats - HD DVD and Blu-Ray - but settled exclusively on HD DVD after deciding that it offered better quality, lower-priced players and lower manufacturing costs, Kelley Avery, president of Paramount Home Entertainment, told Reuters.

There are also financial incentives offered -

The studios won undisclosed financial incentives for exclusive commitments to release high-definition movies onto HD DVD only. A person familiar with the situation said the incentives included both cash payments and soft incentives such as marketing promotions.

I'm wondering this also----About a week ago I read in the local newspaper that Toshiba was coming out with their own product instead of using the Blu-ray design, and maybe Paramount is starting to take sides ??? Remember when they had the big wars over the VCR caper ?? Maybe that's what's starting to happen. Ya think ???
