Hybrid discs using symlinks

I've been scratching my head on this for weeks now, and the best I have is a cludgy work-around.

I have a dual-platform product to burn to disc, and I don't want to share the PC-only data. As I also want Mac users to have an easy ride to install the software I want to add a symlink to /Applications to the window. Now, I can create the symlink OK - that's fine, but when I burn the CD, the symlink failed to resolve.

If I choose a PC/Mac hybrid (i.e. not custom), then the symlink is fine, but I have to place the PC files 'off window' as it were.

I'm assuming that custom hybrid is Standard HFS, and PC/Mac hybrid is Extended HFS and that this is the reason. Can anyone confirm this, and is there a way to burn custom data to an Extended HFS hybrid? Is this addressed in a later version of Toast (I have 6 Titanium and very happy with it...)?
