audio/playback choppy and stuttering

when previewing my captured movies in the editing tool, the video and audio is choppy and stuttering. i'm running media creator 9, and using a top end dual core machine w/2 gig ram w/vista. you'd think this industry has matured to a point where this stuff should be "smooth as silk". whatsup with this???

Don't know what formats you're using or anything, but if it helps Vista threw a kink in audio driver software -- it might help making sure the latest drivers are installed.

Actually... check out the places the pro's & semi-pro's hang out... They mostly have stayed away from Vista for production work, and *might* just play with it to learn Vista, see what works, that sort of thing.
