High Pitche audio noise

Tim Gallagher

Question

I have an audio clip that I export of out Avid XPress Pro as a .wav file. The audio sounds great in XPress Pro, and the exported .wav sounds great in Quicktime and Windows Media.

However, when playing in the time line of DVDit, there is suddenly a high pitch tone throughout the entire audio track. I have tried to apply an audio filter from within XPress Pro (even though the noise is not present in that app), and the filter reduces the volume of the tone, but does not completely remove it.

In contrast, MyDVD, which I also have on the system, does not have a problem with playing the audio. It sounds exactly as it does in XPress Pro (and Quicktime and WM).

My system is an HP dv4000 1.6Ghz laptop with SoundMax for audio.

I have tried to reduce the hardware accelerator from full down to none (based on a suggestion I saw on another forum), but it had no effect.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Tim

what about in a burned disc? If you put your transcoding "project settings" for audio on WAV, and your audio is 48/16 your WAV should pass right through to the DVD without any distortion at all.

No, I have not actually burned a disc because I don't want to waste the disc or time, if what the software is playing for me is bad. Unless what the software plays is not actually what goes onto the disc, which I doubt is the case.

you have a bunch of programs and bunch of decoders on that computer. likely there is a conflict. The audio on a disc can absolutely be different from the preview audio. the good news is that DVD-R discs are only .25 cents or so. Burn a disc with the original audio and see what it sounds like on the DVD.

Thanks - I'll burn a disc and let you know what happens (I'm off to do another project so I might wait til I'm burning a disc for that.) You mentioned decoders, are there any that you know of that just don't work with DVDit on the same system? I have on my system (besides the standard Windows sound stuff): DVDit 6.2, MyDVD, Quicktime 7.2 (required by XPress Pro), Windows Media 10, MS Movie Maker, Real Player, Avid XPress Pro 5.7.2, Nero DVD Creator, IntervideoDVD player.

As for the sound card, the DVDit specs say any Windows compatible card, but if there is any issue with SoundMax, let me know.

Thanks, Tim
