Disks Write-Protected

valkanbs

Question

I have been using DVD-RW disks to store zip copies of single folders for some time. Since upgrading to EMC9, all the disks written previously are reading as write-protected and I can't add or replace files. I can remove write-protection from the files but it tells me that the media is write-protected.

This leaves me with dozens of useless disks so I'd like to find a way to clear the write protection and use the disks.

On optical media you can't change a file that's been written like you can on your hard drive or a floppy. That's why it's write protected.

If you were writing in sessions or using packet writing (not recommended) then you'd be able to add files but if it's just a regular disc once it's been closed there is no more adding to it.
