Slide shows have blank frames

Mob Boss

Question

I have tried making several dvd slideshows and most often they have blank slides in them. Works fine on the preview but when i burn I get several blanks in slide show.

I have a Dell e6300 with the read/write dvd drive = Name TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H553A

Also when I try to use roxio to erase a dvd it doesn't and keeps requesting a disc. after I click erase quick or full the info still show it there.

version of easy cd dvd is 9.0.554 running xp

I think you might find of interest some basic information on the different kinds of optical discs (commercially pressed, R, RW) and disc formatting to be useful - try this link:

I read your article but it doesn't explain either problem.

I have tried burning a couple of slide shows to DVD+R and they immediately have the blank slides when I play the disc back on a player to check the burn. The projects are fine in preview on the pc in roxio easy cd dvd.

Also doesn't explain why roxio can't erase the bad burns.

I was wondering if burning at 16x is to much for roxio and a slower speed would make a difference but I don't want to waste more dvd's experimenting when the program can't erase as it should???

First, you can't erase DVD+R discs. You would need to be using DVD+RW discs if you want to erase them. So that could be why you aren't able to erase them.

To the "missing" slides, that's usually an indication of a problem with your video card. Try updating your video card drivers. From the manufacturer sites (like Nvidia or ATI for example), not from MS updates.

RW in the wrong place on the label means read many, write once. DVD+RW means write many, read many.

As far as the blank slides go, look at the size of each jpeg that you are trying to encode. I know there is an unknown size limitation with the basic jpeg to mpeg encoding/rendering software routine that is common to many of the Roxio EMC suite of programs.

sorry, the memorex discs are labeled DVD+R (RW) so I thought they were rewritable RW???.
RW in the wrong place on the label means read many, write once. DVD+RW means write many, read many.

The RW that's kinda off by itself, sometimes next to the speed rating like 4x, doesn't mean anything other than it's a "plus" + type of disc. Why the "plus" + disc type group chose to use that symbol to differentiate themselves from the "dash" - disc type group is beyond me. It causes just the kind of confusion you've encountered. The place to look is where it is labeled DVD+R or DVD+RW, that's where the RW part needs to be. Some brands even add to the label DVD+R as "Recordable", and DVD+RW as "Rewritable".
