Popcorn 3 - Tivo not going to Itunes

KenMac

Question

Hi, I installed Popcorn 3 so that I can transfer my TV shows from my Tivo to my Iphone via Itunes automatically. However, it's not importing the popped file into Itunes. I've selected Iphone output / Standard to Itunes, but instead it's outputting a m4v file to the desktop!

It goes ahead and transfers the program from Tivo, and automatically pops it over to popcorn when it's finished tranfering it, but then it just converts it to m4v and places the file on the desktop.

Help!

I can confirm, same result here. Manually converting goes to iTunes, but autotransfer goes to the desktop.

Also, if I manually select a tivo file and click "Pop it" it also goes to the desktop and not to popcorn.

Yeah! Finally some action on this...I still have the same issue...

ROXIO? You going to fix this??

It's been around two months for me...still nothing but stock answers from Roxio on this problem. I've given up and will think twice before buying any other Roxio products in the future.

Well, here is another one. Will probably be another 2 months. Guess it's better than nothing. In the meantime, I'll just wait, and certainly will not recommend this product until these issues are resolved.

2 weeks and still waiting.

Roxio has said nothing in response to my inquiry in 2 weeks. I'm getting a little impatient, especially now that others are turning up on this thread with the same issue.

If they are working on a fix, they should at least say so, or at least confirm or deny weather they can reproduce the issue. Just leaving customers waiting to wonder what is going on with their issue is bad form. Popcorn will likely be my last Roxio product.

On another note, I have also had the Tivo transfer issue of stalling. Mine usually occurs when transferring more than one video and it usually occurs on the second transfer in a series. It can get hung up at any point in the transfer. I am unable to track down any reason for it. If I retry the transfer, it will usually work the second time around. Hopefully the fix that cpmomcat mentioned will fix this.

Yep, sounds like the same issue. Thanks for the reply and I guess I'll live with watching it via Popcorn until they fix this. I've found that the series recording transfer is also broken, so I'm back to managing the transfer manually every night as well. You would think they would have known that TiVo was coming out with the upgrade for a while now, so I'm disappointed Roxio wasn't paying attention and didn't have a fix ready along with the TiVo upgrade. Guess this is a side project for them and not something they're staying on top of. Oh well.

Thank again.

I believe that this is the same issue that is plaguing Toast with the TivoToGo features. The Tivo upgrade apparently causes the transferred files to be unreadable by Toast and maybe Popcorn. I am certain about Toast - I put in a Ticket and got back a notice telling me that Roxio is aware of the issue and a fix is being worked on.

I suspect that Popcorn has the same issue.

Unfortunately, I've had the same issue. it seems as if the "automatic pop it" feature isn't really complete. If you double click on the .m4v file, my iTunes automatically imports the file since I've told it to consolidate my library, but now I have 3 copies (one .tivo, one .m4v on my desktop, and one in my iTunes folder). Very annoying miss on the Roxio front, since it seems that doing it manually creates the automatic transer to iTunes we all want. I just delete the extra files, but it wastes 1 GB of space per Daily Show until I get around to killing the extra files.

Also, has anyone seen any issues since the TiVo update recently? I got an update to my Series 2 this weekend (9.1-01-2-140) and all of the sudden, Popcorn gets stuck at 0% on the conversion process. Letting it sit there doesn't seem to produce results, and when I cancel the process, the .m4v version disappears.

Still waiting to hear from Roxio's Second Level support. That was 5 days ago when I was told that my problem had been escalated. Still nothing.

Here is the response I got from Roxio through the trouble ticket I submitted. Frankly it's a little insulting to get such a form response. The suggestions don't even relate to my question. And yes, I do have all the latest updates.

Try again Roxio. So far I am pleased with the product other then this one issue. There are other glitches too, but this one is the most annoying.

Anyone with this problem should also submit a trouble ticket through their contact page. This way they will see it coming from multiple users.

Yeah! Finally some action on this...I still have the same issue...

ROXIO? You going to fix this??

I have opened a trouble ticket with Roxio. Hopefully they will look into it through there.

I mainly purchased this program to automate the process of moving files from Tivo to AppleTV.

I want to use my Tivo to schedule and use my Apple TV as my primary media manager.

Now that I look at their feature list, it does only say this...

>NEW Exclusive TiVoToGo support for the Mac lets you transfer shows from your TiVo DVR, watch on your >Mac, burn to disc, or convert for playback on a portable device

>NEW Automatically convert video for the portable device of your choice after transfer from your TiVo DVR

It doesn't say that it will download, transfer, convert and add to iTunes.

However, you would assume this to be true given the feature set of the application.

You can...

A. Automatically transfer tivo downloads to popcorn and convert them (ending up on the desktop)

B. Convert tivo files in Popcorn and automatically have them added to iTunes

So it would follow that these 2 features should be connected. And they would be

if the conversion didn't end up on the desktop, but instead were treated as it is in a

manual conversion that is sent to iTunes.

I would also love to see a feature that would allow you to schedule download and conversions for certain times of the night. Say, download and convert between midnight and 6am or even while I am at work on weekdays. Then when I come home, I can just look at my AppleTV for my content.

Don't want to get greedy, I'd just like to see the auto transfer work first.

This really seems like a great product. Just looks like it needs a few tweaks.

OK, I did that...and it went into Itunes, like it should...then trying a Pop It again from Tivo and it just went to the desktop. :(

Also, if I manually select a tivo file and click "Pop it" it also goes to the desktop and not to popcorn.

Help? Still Ain't working! Putting the files on desktop!

I am experiencing the exact same problem. Files are going to my desktop in .m4v format and are not

being automatically added to iTunes. Is there a preference that needs to be set?

I have the..

"Automatically export transferred TiVo recordings to Popcorn" button checked in the

Tivo transfer for popcorn prefs.

I have Popcorn prefs set to "Save to" iTunes.

So what am I missing?

I hope to see this resolved. This is the main reason I bought this program.

Can you try manual conversion in Popcorn 3 and let me know if the resulting file is sent to the iTunes library correctly?

1) Launch Popcorn 3

2) Click Player --> Video Files

3) Drag a TiVo recording from the Media Browser to the project area

4) Click the Red button at the bottom right, choose your device settings and select iTunes at the destination

5) Click Export

OK, I did that...and it went into Itunes, like it should...then trying a Pop It again from Tivo and it just went to the desktop. :(

I'm using automatic conversion...if I play the file in in Itunes it plays fine.

Are you using the automatic conversion when transferring from TiVo Transfer for Popcorn or are you doing this manually in Pop 3?

If you launch iTunes manually and try to play that file in iTunes, does it playback correctly?

I don't have TiVo but it may help if you know what Popcorn 3 does with my exports. It writes an .m4v file in my Movies folder and then sends a copy to iTunes which I found by clicking the TV Shows playlist and scrolling to the bottom of the list.

What this means is I get two copies of the video on my Mac, so I delete the one in my Movies folder after checking that it also is in iTunes.
