unspecified error [0x80004005] when attempting to burn DIVX dvd

rwh13384

Question

Firstly my specs

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Intel C2D E6400

4gb Corsair 800mhz Ram

Asus P5N32Sli Motherboard

Radeon X1950 pro GPU

2x lite on dvdrw lh-18a1p - glof

Everything is up to date.

All of a sudden, I cannot burn DIVX files to convert to a DVD, I select the file I want to burn, click burn, it starts encoding and stops at 8% with unspecified error [0x80004005], thereby turning the dvdr into a coaster.

Have tried it with both drives, installed latest ati drivers, all to no avail, still get the error.

Can anybody help, please.

Is it only one particular divx file that won't work or others as well? Did you update divx recently?

What program are you using to convert to dvd?

No it's all .avi files.

Divx components that were installed by EMC9 are all I have installed on my machine, I do not use divx player but vlc.

EMC 9, Burn DIVX DVD, I let it do it all, i.e. transcoding the .avi file and burning it to get a playable DVD, worked in the past quite well, it's for my nephew as he doesn't have a divx enabled dvd player.

I am currently trying to burn it using Vista's DVD maker, 62% encoded atm.

Thanks Beerman, didn't make any difference, unfortunately.

After all the hassle, maybe it's now time to research an alternative to EMC9, Roxio seem to be incapable of making a software application that actually works.

This may not help either, but here goes. Are you opening MyDVD thru the Roxio Home app? Try opening it theu Start -> Programs ->..... This has helped some with similar problems.

You have to do what you feel is best but I can tell you that the update (9.1) is due to be released very soon. And, since v10 is being sold starting September 5, my money is betting the update will be offered before then as that just makes sense to me. So, before you spend more money, you may want to see what, if anything, is offered to current users.
