Few questions from a new Popcorn 3 user...

Blackspell

Question

Hello,

I'm relatively new to using Roxio Popcorn and I have a few questions that I can't readily find answers to. I have been using other tools such as Handbrake and VisualHub/MPEG Streamclip to convert my home library to Apple TV formatted files. Handbrake for converting DVDs to H.264 and VisualHub/MPEG Streamclip for converting DivX/XviD to H.264. I like the idea of Popcorn's all-in-one approach so I'm trying to get a feel for it as a suitable replacement.

DivX/Xvid Conversion: In the few files I've converted, I've noticed that Popcorn is setting some of the iTunes tags automatically. I'm not sure by what method it determines whether a file is a "Movie" or a "TV Show". I'm getting some files tagged as Movie and some tagged as TV Show. The only logic I find is the length of the content. Is there a way to edit the tags before the conversion takes place? Popcorn lets me change the name of the file, but nothing else in the batch list. After these files end up in iTunes, I've noticed that they have a comment added that shows the length of the conversion, but no way to edit that field even in iTunes. This is where normally the Show/Movie description is displayed in iTunes/Apple TV. In essence, I get:

Title = File name (if I haven't changed it in the Popcorn batch list window)

Show = Date (this is the date of the conversion)

Description = Length of Show/Movie

If I change the output to DVD-Video, in that project, those 3 lines are editable when you double click the video file in the list.

Secondly, I've run into the other problem listed in the forum here with DivX files having A/V sync issues when Apple TV Automatic is selected. The problem is fixed by using a Custom method and changing the Framerate as mentioned. Doing this though outputs to an .mp4 file rather than the normal .m4v. I realize this may just be cosmetic but it seems odd behavior to me.

Other than that I've been very pleased with the output so far. Thanks for any insight you guys might be able to provide.

This isn't a direct response to your inquiry because I don't have answers.

I've made changes to categories and other info in iTunes by selecting a title and pressing Command+I and then clicking the Video tab in the info window.

I don't know where the "Description" info is edited so I just disabled that column in iTunes' View Options. The Description given by Popcorn is the total time of all the titles I selected for bulk export via my Turbo.264. I can't get rid of it so I just hide it.

Yeah, actually a little program called MetaX can edit all those fields plus add ratings for movies (i.e. G, PG, PG-13, R, etc.) so that the little icon shows up. This is fine as far as if that's the only way I can do it, but it adds yet another application and in many cases, MetaX will re-write the entire file with the tag changes, which on an external drive can take nearly 5-10 minutes to do. I was hoping that maybe I was just overlooking a quick and dirty way to get the basic info done.
