Vista and programs

James BooBoo

Question

What I heard, this day, from a person working on Vista. No new programs that say thay are, Vista ready, are Vista ready. There are to many bugs in Vista. The thought is that Vista will not be bug free till SP2 for Vista. I was told to go back to using XP for now.

My problem with using XP, is I bought my new Computer with Vista on it, which I can't, go back to XP.

Mirosoft is suppose to release part of a service package for , Windows Vista, thay say in about two weeks, as an update. Maybe this will fix some of the problems with installing new programs. There are lots of other programs, not just Roxio programs, that don't work on Vista. I have some others, I've install, But, but, but, but, if you know what I mean.

I have another program that I've install, that works good, But, but, but, it needs an update. But, but, but, when I try to install the update, I lose the program, it, it, crashes, it goes down in flames. Nothing left but a pile of, of, errors, errors.

Now what do you, what do you, with updates to a program, that make it crash and burn? :(:angry2::P

I get rid of the troublesome OS and go back to one that is rock solid.

Without breaking my NDA with Microsoft, i can say to you that some users have found good speed increase and more settled PC systems with the service pack , and then others had had major issues (like every patch ever made ) Remember that windows XP or vista can run differently for different people as drivers from the different hardware can make or cause issues with applications or Operating systems, also note the same thing can be said for spyware and Virus on peoples PC's , many think that "it must be the programs fault, as i have antivirus on my PC"

when most AV and spyware apps don’t do a good job at the best of time.

Just take note of a few things to do with Vista,

1. is it going to run the games or programs you want to run , (look at the makers web site)

2. Don’t get any PC unless you get min of 1 gig ram or more with any vista Version.

3. Don’t get Vista home basic (MS Should be shot for releasing this)

4. This patch will bring Vista to were it should have been when they launch it, (too much speed and to little checking)

5. This patch will probably cause issues with many apps (as MS are renown for fix one thing and kill 2 others)

6. id hold tight and see what the Release version of the 9.1 patch looks like or hold till EMC10 is released.

Just my thoughts , take them as you like.

Regards

Some people say thay don't like Vista, at all, and go back to XP. I like Vista better then XP. Yes there are a few things I don't care for, but on the hole I like Vista. My last computer had XP, it was out but a year, had a few problems with XP at that time. Had few problems with Vista, got them right by searching and help with other groups and on the web. The biggest problem I have right now is the same as many other, Installing new programs. This I didn't have this problem with XP.

This computern, new 4 months, and my last, both HP computers. One thing I have learned if you need help and support, don't, don't, go to HP help and support, for help. I've had more problems with this and the last computer after HP tried to help. Both computers I had to totally recover after HP's help.

One last comment, I've heard, don't know how true it is, but here it is. I heard Dell computers with Vista installed, are nothing but problems. Is this true or not? I don't really know.

I will wait for Roxio Creator 10 to come out to update my software, and hope it will install with less problems.

Hi,

I also had some problems installing or registering programs on Vista. I could solve most of these problems by running both the installer (either from the installation CD/DVD or the downloaded program) and the program (at least until after registration) as administrator.

Even if the user is set up as an administrator, just right click on the installer and select run as administrator to install and then right click on the installed program and select run as administrator when this program needs registration. This worked for me for a number of programs (Pinnacle Hollywood FX, Pinnacle Hollywood FX patch, Muvee, DivX Pro, MAGIX MP3 maker, Cyberlink PowerDirector 6, etc.).

Have you applied the updates they released August 7?

They are:

Compatibility & Reliability

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=938194

Performance & Reliability

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=938979

I use Window automatic updates. These updates were installed 08-29-07.

A few years back I use to let windows download updates and I would pickout the ones I wanted to install. Sometimes thay wouldn't install. I find that if I let Windows download and install, the installation goes a lot smoother and everyting gets installed that is need.

Some downloads are optional. like printer drivers. If you try to download a driver that already in your system. the download will not install.:rolleyes:
