Toast Stalls On Startup-application Not Responding- Anyone Else?

cricketteo

Question

Running Toast 6.1.1 on a G5/10.3.9-

everything has been smooth sailing with Jam and Toast 6

suddenly, Toast will not startup. spinning beach ball for a long time then goes to application not responding.

Toast will not quit, force quit. Or if it force quits, it has not really quit - application not responding

can't restart or shut down computer without using power button

have already tried, repairing permission and verifying and repairing disk from startup cd- no change

tried to use Toast from original CD- exhibits same behavior

can't get to preferences to "uninstall"

tried reinstalling "replace" existing Toast app - no change in stalling behavior

if anyone has experienced anything like this, or has any other further suggestions - any advice would be appreciated

there is an external La Cie drive involved, but we have already ejected the disk, disconnected it and tried all of the above procedures as well with it disconnected.

*fingers crossed someone can help*

One more thing.

Recently installed Final Cut Express.

Can't find any report on a conflict with Toast 6, but...??

Delete the two Toast plist files that are in your User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Toast.

Sorry, I was away babysitting my grandson for a few days. Have you been able to get Toast to work? You're right about there being one plist and one prefs file. The only other thing I can guess to try is to clean your disc caches using an application such as MacJanitor or Macaroni. If you have DiskWarrior then give it a go, too.
