Ghost Images Appear in MPEG-2 Video

Guest RCD74

Question

Hi - I have seen people complain about this problem in the past and I know they were told to clear proxy files, however, that didn't work or I am doing something wrong.

Here is the scenario: I created a production in Videowave and outputted it to DVD best quality as an MPEG-2. When I went to watch the video as an MPEG-2 on my computer before burning it onto a disc in MYDVD, I noticed on a few pictures, there were outlines of images from previous pictures. I assume this is what people meant by "ghost images" and when I went to Options in Videowave, I clicked on the button that says "clear proxy". Is that all I needed to do?? After doing that it still kept these ghost images even after outputting this production a 2nd time. How do I get rid of the ghosts??? Thanks in advance!!

You need to clear the cache - that's where it's coming from

Explain that as if you are talking to a 5 year old. What exactly do I need to do?? Thanks.

I realize that I've asked this before and tried looking for that post but couldn't find it in the "search". It still doesn't give me a step by step process of how to do this. I went to Options and pressed the button that says "clear" under proxy files. However, it still gave me ghost images when I outputted the production which makes me realize I am doing something incorrectly. Could you please explain what I need to do? I don't understand what a "cache" is or pretty much anything else for that matter. However, I am good at following directions when they are given to me. Thanks so much again.

1. Open Videowave.

2. Click Tools menu, options, click clear, click OK.

3. Open the production you want (file menu, Open production..)

4. Export you production to a file (click the output as icon, make your selections of the various oprions, click create video file)

5. When done, close Videowave.

I don't think I've left any steps out :-).

To speed up its working, Videowave creates proxy versions of (some of) the files used in a production. It uses those proxy files instead of the original files when processing the production (hence the name proxy file). The proxy files are stored (cached) in a folder, the path to which is shown in the box in the Tools options page: Proxy files. You can navigate to that folder in Windows Explorer or My Computer if you want to see what is there. Step 2 deletes all the files in that folder and Videowave then quickly makes fresh copies of the proxy files it wants for the opened production. Thus clearing the cache ensures that it is not using older versions of the proxy files for the current production, which seems sometimes to cause the problem you encounter.

Thanks Jean. Unfortunately, I have tried these steps over and over again, yet I am still getting the exact same ghost images in the exact same spot of my production even after the output. It is only really obvious (at least to me) on two pictures. My husband couldn't see it until I pointed it out to him. Hopefully the people I made the DVD for won't notice it either. Thanks for all of your help.

One other thing that just came to mind. Is it possible that there are images on one of the internal tracks of either the image or the project. Sometimes these are hard to find.

Look at the images in storyline. Do any have a small icon attached? This may mean that there is another image in that location. Also look at the bottom of the screen. Is there an icon there? That may mean that something is hidden there. If you click it, a window should open to show you where it is.

Thanks Steve. Unfortunately there are no icons on those images and the only icon at the bottom of the production is the one for music (which is supposed to be there). I just can't seem to get rid of these ghost images. The MOST bizarre thing is that after importing the MPEG-2 file (which has the ghost images on it) into MYDVD, I burned 4 DVDs of this production and 2 came out without ghost images on them and 2 came out with the images there. There are days that I just CANNOT figure out this program for the life of me. It is so strange since I used the exact same file for all the burns. Oh well. It is just one of those EMC9 mysteries!! Thanks for your help anyway!!

Let's see your significant other can't see them and you don't seem them on some discs burning from an ISO file but you do on others ? (Cue twilight zone music). Now we really are starting to understand that the program is really driving you bonkers ! Sorry, I couldn't help it.

Actually some people have very good eyesight to brain interfaces so you may see it when others do not. Baseball players have good eye-hand coordination. You may have outstanding eye-recognition coordination. You were probably very good at using flash cards in school.

Are some of the ghost images around any of the 3D transitions or are you using the same 3D transitions throughout? Some people see a movement or jump in the image with some video cards around some of the transitions.

Any possibility that we could see the ghost images if you post a screen video? Go to Tech Smith and download "Jing". It does a screen capture that you can post on the web.

I can't download Jing b/c I don't have .Net Framework 3.0. However, my husband DID see the ghost images after I pointed them out. I know it sounds crazy that some DVDs have the images while others don't. Maybe my computer is spooked. Oh well, I do wish I could show everyone!!
