Media Not Recognized

DalDei

Question

The same exact thing has happened to me starting last week.

My DVD/RW burner no longer is recognizing any of my DVD/RW disks. I have used them maybe 5 times, at first I thought media and through out 2 of them but I cant get ANY of them to work.

The Sonic tool reports them as not appendable or not writable. Erasing does no good.

Once I try to write to any DVD/RW it hangs my DVD device and I have to reboot to get it to work with anything.

Writing DVD +R works fine.

This is a recent regression ... Seems very much a coincidence. I'm about to log a support case with Dell but if this is something I can solve myself, I'd prefer that.

Thanks. Cleaning didnt help.

Attempting to write to a DVD/RW produced this error

"Please insert a blank or rewritable disk into the _NEC DVDRW 9 (E:) drive,

Supported media: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+R , DVD+RW , DVD+R 9

Then Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7 hangs and I have to reboot my system to get access to the drive again.

This is with a used media. I will buy a new one, but since so far 4 of these produce the same error, and were working fine last week, I suspect its NOT the media.

FInal Resolution. ... DELL thought it was hardware and sent me a new DVD/RW burner but still have the same problem, I cant burn DVD/RW's !

Finally I figured it out ... sorta. The "DLA" option is staying set in the drive properties.

If I turn off DLA then I can burn DVD/RW's ... but the next time I reboot it comes back on.

I've even uninstalled Roxio's DLA program and it still comes back on and I have to turn it off every time I want to burn a new DVD/RW (after a reboot). Oh well, atleast I have a workaround !

Have you read the response to duplicate post in the other thread?
