Question

First off, I did search a little, and I found this helpful post:

Having looked at that first liked thread, plus the Creator 9 User Guide, I still decided to take a chance and start this thread. I'd guess that after I bang out one simple DVD with lot's of help ('training wheels', so to speak), I'll have the requisit patience and curiosity to truly delve into the guides.

I am in possession of all the files on a DVD of a concert performance. I'm told it's chaptered, and there are credits and cover art (both jpg) in addition to the video files (VOB, IFO, and BUP). Just getting to this point has been somewhat exhausting, as it required me to gain membership to a torrent site (not easy), procure a torrent client app and learn how to use it, then 'leech' the torrent, which took 2-3 days (it's about 4GB). Since I really only wanted audio, burning the DVD is almost a superfluous step, but, of course, I am curious.

The folder of files includes the following:

The credits jpg

The cover art jpg

a txt file with liner notes

Thumbs.db

a file called VIDEO_TS.md5

a folder called VIDEO_TS, which holds:

VIDEO_TS.BUP

VIDEO_TS.IFO

VIDEO_TS.VOB

VTS_01_0.BUP

VTS_01_0.IFO

VTS_01_0.VOB

VTS_01_1.VOB

VTS_01_2.VOB

VTS_01_3.VOB

VTS_01_4.VOB

What I did, so far, was open My DVD 9, click Add New Movie, then added all the files from the VIDEO_TS folder, above. A dialog box opened that says "Import Movies from VOB" and asks me to select the movies I want to import; there's only one in there, Movie 1, at 01:50:50, which seems about right as the length of the concert. Once I add it, it shows up in the project view as VIDEO_TS. I burned that to disc, and it has no chapters, i.e. it all one track. Also, the image in the large Preview screen is an out of focus forest picture. When I play the DVD, the forest picture is in focus, but there are two of them, side by side.

Obviously, this is the default menu image, which I didn't change, but why 2 side by side? Given the contents of the VIDE_TS folder, above, is there a simple answer as to what I need to add/import to have this project resemble the DVD it comes from?

Use the Disc Copier application. Select the CD & DVD Copy tab, then for the source file, select browse for image/video folder set in the dropdown selector. Then point to the Video_TS folder.

The application will not copy encrypted and/or commercial video.

What "Disc Copier" application? When I open Roxio Creator 9 XE, ther's a "Copy Disc" utility, but that starts with "Insert the disc to be copied", which I don't have.

I don't know what that version contain but you may have a strip down version of Media Creator in which case not all applications in the full Suite are available in your version.

Does that "Copy Disc" allow you to select the Video_TS folder as the source?

The XE version I understand to be a limited functionality OEM one. It usually shipped with MadDog burners from what I've read.

That Copy Disc part of teh Home app doesn't accept video folders for burning discs. To see if you have the Disc Copier app in your version, go to Start -> Prgrams -> Roxio 9 ->.... and see if you can find Disc Copier listed there.

I did get it with a MadDog Burner, which I bought with the intention of watching DVDs and maybe trying Lightscribe on my CDs.

There's no Disc Copier anywhere, but there are a lot of other apps, under headings like Audio, Backup, Backup My PC7, Copy, Data, My Media, Photo, Tools, Video, and Home. Video has Media Import, My DVD, and VideoWave.

My Copy Disc app seems strictly to copy disc to disc:

From the looks of that screen shot, I think you're right. It doesn't even appear to be able to copy a disc image file. Sounds like you're going to have to find some other software to burn those video folders with. You could Google the net for ones like ImgBurn that may work, or just get the EMC 10 version that came out today. It includes an app (Video Copy & Convert) with the ability to burn video folders to a disc.

But I do have the ability to burn a DVD, as I already have. I just can't figure out how to make the chapters show up, etc. Any quick tips on using the Roxio app I do have?:

Roxio2.jpg

The app you pictured is MyDVD. It's for compiling and authoring (aka creating) DVD's from videos and picture files. You basically start from scratch and create all the menus titles etc...

That's all been done already within that video_ts folder you have. It was burned to that set of folders rather than to an actual disc, so to get it onto a disc, you just need a disc copy program that allows you to select the video_ts "video folder set" as your source rather than a disc.
