The limit for playlists is 99 unless the disc is full before then. There can be as few as 1 and as many as 99 (or maybe 98) tracks in each playlist. I'm not sure why you think there is a limit of six. Maybe you're seeing the six thumbnails that are on the first page of the menu and not clicking the arrow to see the next menu page.


One limiting factor can be choosing PCM instead of Dolby Digital as the audio format. PCM is uncompressed and slightly larger than AIFF. I think you can fit about 7 hours of music on a single layer DVD with PCM audio and up to about 50 hours using Dolby Digital. When choosing Dolby Digital you can choose the bit rate. The lower bit rate is lesser quality but fits more on a DVD.
