Edit Video Clips From A Dvd

Question

Question : I took old 8mm home movies and converted them to VHS. I then took the VHS tape and burned it to a DVD. I can load the DVD files to VideoWave but what I havn't been able to figure out is how to edit certain portions of the DVD so I only put together just the parts I need. VideoWave shows the content of the DVD as having 9 'chapters'. How it gets that, I don't know, but within a 'chapter' I may only need 20-30 seconds of video. Any ideas how to edit out the unwanted video?

In the timeline view, watch the video or move the time slider (along the time scale) to the start of what you want to remove and click on the double ended arrow head. Now go to the end of where you want to cut and repeat. Now select the section you want to remove and use the "X" to remove it. You may want to increase the time span using the icon slide (just above the timeline slider) to make the cut easier. The time slider does go back to the beginning of the section so don't be surprised, Just repeat moving the slide to the place on the timeline that you want to remove. You can use undo if you make a mistake. You are not actually deleting parts of the video; you are just creating instructions that tells the program what sections to use or not use.

As for the chapters, it is possible that scenes were captured when you imported the files. Usually chapters are added in MyDVD to separate sub-parts of a DVD production. Are these giving you a problem? A they showing up as different blocks in the storyboard view. If so, they will just play one after another and will show up in the timeline as one continuous strip. When you delete parts, more of these blocks will be added.

Thank U SKNIS. I just started transfering tape to DVDs, then to the computer where I could edit them. I couldn't find anything in the 314 page User Guide (been looking for hours). With your one paragraph, I'm now able to split the movie apart where I could start to work on it.

A BIG THANK YOU
