Installation EMC 10

Question

Below is my latest note to Support with my answers to their suggestions. Purchased and downloaded EMC 10 and once again problems came up with this software. I have used EMC 5 and 7 without problems. I downloaded the trial version of EMC 9 and used it okay with the 30 day period. But when I purchased and downloaded 9 my computer would hang and freeze. Uninstalled and re installed several times and then gave up. Removed every element with Roxio or Sonic on it. Then Roxio sent e-mails with this darn good offer of EMC 10 for 30 bucks. Dang! Maybe the bugs have been worked out. But not so. As stated below it would seem that a history of problems from users would have given Roxio some targets as to zero in on what elements might be corrupting their software.

Any suggestions from the members here on what I might try next? Also note below that EMC 10 Contents now won't install.

--------------------------------------------------------------

1. This I did, my DirectX version is 9.2

2. Video drivers were updated to the latest, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, Catalyst 7.9.

3. My screen resolution is set to 1280 X 1024. I tried to reset to 1024 X 768 as you suggested and my computer froze. Restarted with the case button and changed back to the normal setting.

But these suggestions did not work. MyDVD and Videowave applications still do not respond when clicked on. All other applications do. Also as I try different things my computer sometimes will hang. But the EMC 10 comes up just fine; everything is there except the stated two. Doesn’t Roxio have enough "troubles" input to zero in on some specific element in computers out there that causes problems? I liked EMC 9 “trial” version which worked fine and I made up some slide shows for DVD’s. But when the purchased EMC 9 was downloaded the problems started and I finally uninstalled every element that had Roxio or Sonic on it. When the offer for EMC 10 came up I, hopefully, thought that the new version would have the bugs worked out. Along with this I want you to know that when I purchased and downloaded EMC 10 I first tried to install Contents 10 and after the whole works was loaded I received the message that “EMC 10 must be installed first.” Did that, but now when I try to install Contents 10 the Install Shield reads the contents and when the blue line reaches the end the computer hangs. Every time. Then the note “not responding” comes up. Remember now, the first time Contents 10 loaded. But not anymore.

I like your software but it is testing my frustration level to a high degree.

Get rid of the Catalyst 7.9's. They are bug ridden. Use the Catalyst 7.7's. You can get them, here:

Make sure that you uninstall the 7.9's before installing the 7.7's.

Not sure that Catalyst 7.9 is the problem as the older version was present when the problems started. It was Roxio support that said to upgrade the video card drivers.

One other mystery happens with my computer is that if I am working in, say, My Pictures, and click back on the Desktop from the Task bar most, but not all, of my icons are gone and a small EMC page is substituted. Then after about 4 or 5 minutes the icons reappear. Also the Desktop block remains on the screen but is blank until some minutes pass. But I can click on those icon pages and bring up that program including EMC 10. But the blank Desktop block is still there for some minutes.

What I am hoping here is that someone will read these situations and will have discovered what is causing the problems and possibly a solution.

I still wonder what the problems are with installing EMC 9 and 10 on some computers. We all know computers can be devious and mysterious in their ways but with a history of problematic installs sent to Roxio Support for help it would seem that a pattern would evolve that could be zeroed in on. Support from Roxio hasn’t been that helpful but this Forum is an eye-opener for information of all kinds with Easy Media Creators!

I am also a Vietnam Vet, served there twice.
