Normalizing in Toast 8

smooth1

Question

I am new to the mastering world and learned about normalizing in Toast 8. I've used CD Spin Dr to make tracks out of my mix and hit the little toast icon on the top right corner and exported them to Toast to burn a cd. I normalized all my tracks (disc>normalize track) and burned some cd of my mix. When I closed Toast 8, I made sure to save my .disc project. My question is once I normalized all the tracks on that project, do I need to normalize each time I open the project to burn a disc for someone? I am asking because when I reopen my project, I can highlight the tracks and when I go to disc>normalize, it's as though I can click on it. I thought I wouldn't be able to click on it again since I've already once normalized the tracks the first time. Nowhere on the project info does it say that it's normalized. I've read the normalize section in Roxio support, but it doesn't address whether we have to normalize each time or not. If I do, then I do. I didn't think I would since I did it once and saved it. Can anyone help? Thank you.

I don't think choosing normalize actually rewrites the AIFF file so my guess is you'll need to do it again. I could be wrong about this.

In the future, instead of Saving the Toast project file choose Save as Disc Image. That way you'll have the exact audio files on your computer as they were burned to disc. The disc image that's saved when in the audio CD mode is a Sd2f file. Adding it to Toast will open it in the audio CD window where it can be modified if you like. But it will be normalized from your previous effort. You also can trash your source files from CD Spin Doctor if you like because the Sd2f file has it all.

Or you can just copy the CD in the Toast Copy window that you originally burned or make a disc image from it.

Thanks tsantee. I'll try that. I've been reading through some of the issues on the forum and you have great suggestions. Thanks for taking the time.
