Pc-cillin Conflict?

robmel1

Question

I am thinking of buying the EMC 8 software (I currently have 7.5) and I think I saw somewhere about a possible problem if PC-cillin is on the sytem.

I have PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 installed on my system; will this cause a problem and, if so, exactly what type of problem could I encounter?

Thanks,

Robert

G'day Robert

I've got PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 on my system and had no problems at all. Just remember if you do go ahead with EMC 8 before you install disconnect from the internet turn off PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 and defrag your harddrive then go ahead with the install.

Robert: If you install EMC 8 with PC-cillin on your PC your Optical Drives with no longer work. Roxio has a patch for this problem that is available from the FAQ. However the patch will slow your PC down considerably. I installed EMC 8 on my PC with PC-cillin and went throyght this problem along with many other problems. I have uninstalled it and went back to 7.5. Save your money and stay with 7.5 it atleast works well.

I just bought EMC 8.0 and before I install it I have a couple of more questions.

I currently have EMC 7.5 installed - is there anything I have to do with those programs or can I just leave them on my system? In other words, are there any that have to be uninstalled - such as 'Drag to Disc'?

As I've seen noted I guess I should disable PC-cillin before installation.

Are there any other things I should do, besides defragging the HD, before installing EMC 8.0 (and please don't tell me to say a prayer.) I only say that after reading some of the comments on this site.

Thanks,

Robert

I have done it both ways but my personal preference would be to uninstall V7, reboot and install V8.

If you decide you want some of the program from V7, install them later using the Custom Install option.

If I uninstall EMC 7.5 will that also remove any work I've done, such as slide shows, etc.? Also, instead of uninstalling the complete program, is it possible to uninstall parts of 7.5, such as drag-to-disc?

Robert

If you uninstall EMC 7.5 you will likely not be able to import any EMC 7.5 productions into EMC 8 especially if you used transitions, special effects from EMC 7.5.

If you have the Retail (boxed) version of EMC 7.5, you can uninstall Drag to Disc.

The only reason I asked if things such as slide shows were lost was in case I want to reinstall 7.5 for use later.

I do have the retail version of 7.5 but I'm not sure just how to only uninstall D2D.

Thanks for any help.

First of all, when you save your 7.5 productions, save them to a folder that you have created on your hard drive, outside of the Roxio software, itself. I actually made a folder called Roxio Slide Shows.

To remove Drag to Disc, go to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, and scroll down to Roxio EMC 7. (It will not be listed as EMC 7.5). Then click on Change. Once the next screen comes up, click on Next. At the next screen, click on Modify, then click on Next.

You will then see a Custom Setup screen. Scroll down to Drag to Disc, and click on the hard drive icon to the left of it. You will get 3 options that show on the screen. Click on the "This feature will not be available" option. Then click on Next, and follow the rest of the prompts. Drag to Disc will be uninstalled.

Also, if you install Version 8, don't install Drag to Disc, if you don't plan on using it. I NEVER knowingly install any packet writing software, which includes Drag to Disc, Sonic DLA, Nero InCD, etc.
