Suddenly can't burn DIVX to CD-R

Tommymontana

Question

I have done this several times with the same computer/software (Toast 8) that I am currently attempting it with. I am trying to burn a ~700mb divx movie file to a CD-R. I *have* done this several times and they are made to fit on CDs. Suddenly I am getting a message that says that it cannot fit on the disc (usually <1mb over capacity, i.e. "this file needs 701.9 mb of space, this disc only has 701.8 mb of space. insert another disc). Like I said i have done this DOZENS of times but all the sudden am getting these errors for every file. Anyone know what I can do to get these files to burn???

I don't know what's wrong but you shouldn't need to re-encode those DivX files to fit because they already are sized for CD-R media. I was mistaken when I suggested using the ISO 9660 format in the Data window. I just checked and Toast creates a UDF format Divx disc. So try again with the Data window but choose DVD-Rom (UDF) as the format (yes I know you're burning a CD, not a DVD). Click New Disc and add the .divx file (but don't put it inside any other folder). Now burn to to CD-R. I don't know why it wouldn't be the same using the DivX setting in the Video window.

ugh, no go. there's no way to eliminate the "my disc" portion correct? that's not considered a folder right? i am at wits end.

"My Disc" isn't a folder. It is the name of the disc itself. You can select that text and change the name. I realize I'm searching for a workaround and wish I had a reason why this stopped working in the Video window. Did you change brands or spools of blank discs?

I also just tried editing the DIVX settings to make the file 701mb which has gotten it to go to the burn stage but 10 min and still @ 1% completed (also is not showing burn speeds or time left to complete). Maybe this will work...just don't understand why I've suddenly had to tweak these when I never did before.
