MyDVD9

daowen

Question

I have a new Dell XPS M1210 w/ Vista ( 256 MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7400)sand just purchased MyDVD9.

I've gotten as far as moving photos into a slideshow but the computer freezes consistently if I try to work with transitions or any other feature. I've been unable to get to the point of even trying to burn the dvd.

I should have done more research and based on my reading of forum postings burning DVD's is not necessarily a simply process. I'm more than willing to return MyDVD9 and purchase something that might be easier to work with or less likely to freeze. The installation process required that I uninstall the Roxio Creator Basic so I'm now stuck without the ability to even burn the photos onto DVD.

Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Roxio and vista do not get along regardless of what the company says. If it is not working for you after trying the patch, then return the product.

I have Roxio and Vista working perfectly fine on 2 systems and I don't work for the company.

Most of the users that I have noticed having a problem with an OEM (Dell) version of Roxio EMC on their computer and then tries installing a regular Roxio version has been that although the basic version was supposedly removed, I suggest that there is still reminents of the other program still laying around on the computer that are causing the problem. That in my opinion will cause problems. One must be absolutely sure that "all" files asociated with a previous version of an OEM Roxio version have been removed.

I have not seen anyone say they have been successful with installing this program on a 64bit version of vista. And Beerman grats on getting it to work... really I mean that... but if you read my post, I said "IF" it is not working "after" the patch to return the product. What would your advice be? Keep the unworking product?

Yep .. I discovered that earlier. First installation required uninstall of the OEM version but I had lots of problems so I uninstalled MyDVD and made sure to delete all Roxio files before trying again. Still having problems.

Thanks ... I checked the link and it says: [/i] You must have a valid copy of the full, retail version of Easy Media Creator 9 or Easy Media Creator 9 Deluxe Suite on your system in order to install this update. If you did not purchase a retail copy of Creator, this update will not work for your version of Creator 9.

So ... I have MyDVD 9. Should I still try the patch?

Nope, it won't work.

So ... it's not looking good. I'll try one more uninstall / reinstall and if that doesn't work, I'll return the software. Any suggestions on safest (most consistently reliable??) alternative? I'm willing to pay up and I do understand that there's no way to tell for sure how an application will work with my particular system but any info will be appreciated. My elderly mother is anxiously awaiting the DVD with the old familiy photos so I'm in a bit of a rush.

Evidently we're not allowed to suggest competing product here on this forum even if Roxio's isn't working as my post was once again deleted. glare:

I find that surprising ... and I appreciate that you tried.

I've used user forums for help a lot and I've always before found them to be very helpful and informative. I have been involved on other forums in discussions on pros/cons of competing software which is very helpful for someone with limited technical knowledge.

Roxio tech help tells me to uninstall/reinstall and nothing more. The only suggestion I get from the user forum is to use a patch intended for a product other than the MyDVD 9 I'm having trouble with. While the forum may be useful for more advanced users of Roxio products, the basic assistance / advice I was hoping for doesn't seem to be available through Roxio.

pking1977 maybe thought you had the full version of EMC 9. He/she was trying to help you.

I pretty much figured that and I did appreciate that attempt to assist. It still was the only suggestion received and tech support couldn't help. I'm even willing to accept that I didn't ask my question in the right way or provide enough info about my system... but I just don't know. My problem is I purchased a product that hasn't worked yet and my inclination is always to try to figure out the problem before giving up. I actually am usually able to do so with the help of user forums and tech support . I'm lucky that I'll be able to return the software for a full refund but I'm still in the position of needing to figure out what to do. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone .. I do understand user forums are users providing free help to those of us with less knowledge. Thanks anyway.

p.s. your granddaughters are just about as cute as mine!
