windows keeps trying to install sonic backup

I am using Roxio Easy Media creator 9.

 

Specific example of problem......

 

Creating a data disk (CD or DVD doesn't matter). As soon as I begin adding files or folders to the project, windows installer trys to install "sonic backup mypc deluxe". I click to cancel it, and it restarts. It stops trying to install after it retrys several times. Then I can continue with my project and have no other problems until I quit Roxio. At that point, it gives an "attempt to access restricted memory" error and sites a Roxiocentral exe file as being the culprit.

 

I search programs and I do have "sonic" installed. Also, EasyMedia 9 comes with roxio backup - so do I still need sonic?

 

I have seen a post on here before about this topic but was unable to locate it again. Any help will be appreciated.

Having the same issue except on my computer it also does this on start up. Any help would be appreciated.

I have since edited my registry for any entries related to "bumpmypc". That has helped. Now when I burn a DVD or CD I do see some activity from windows installer but the dialog screens flash by so quickly that I cannot see what is being displayed. After that brief flurry of activity, all seems to be working ok. I intend to do a more thorough search of my registry to see if I missed anything.

 

Ultimately, I may just try a complete uninstall, clean and reinstall. I suppose that would be the best course of action to take.

What happens if you don't click to cancel it?

 

If I don't cancel it.....windows installer launches, the "collecting information for Sonic Backup MyPC Deluxe". The a dialogue box pops up saying that a file is missing and the source box lists "1" as the source (i.e. as the source drive or directory for the missing file). I set this to the directory where I have unpacked the roxio files. Up to this point, there is no indication of the name of the missing file. The computer looks for some file, then comes back and says that it cannot find "bump.msi".

 

I believe that was part of the previous version of EMC and that the new version uses RCP easyarchive - so I thought I would look through the registry for any entries related to "bump" or "backup mypc" and delete them, then see what happens.

 

By the way, after I let the installer run - and bomb out. I click cancel and it starts all over again. It takes about 6 attemps to cancel before it actually stops.
