EMC 9.1 Update on Vista x64

Boykin

Question

It only took me 8 hours, but I finally got 9.1 update to install on Vista Ultimate x64. I think what was causing my problem was that I was trying to install the Update Manager and it was causing the install to be interupted. I did a custom install and did not select update manager (not auto selected and 1st on the list), Drag to Disc, and Media Manager. I also unchecked the boxes to create all icons (I hate having all those icons everywhere.) This did the trick.

I had been cranking up the update and then going on about my businesss and when I would come back, I would have a message that the update had been interrupted. If I would try to start it again, it would not run because the first time had uninstalled all 9.0 programs. I would have to reinstall 9.0 and start over. I finally sat down and watched the process and saw that it was trying to install the update manager when it started rolling everything back and then poped up the error.

When I finally got it to install, I had turned off all non Microsoft services and start programs, disabled UAC, and Data Execution Prevention. I am not sure if any of this had anything to dow with my sucess, since the update failed with all this disabled as long as I checked Update Manager to be installed in the update.

I hope this will help all Vista x64 users that are having a problem.

My System Specs

Windows Vista Ultimate x62

2 GB RAM

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz processor

After downloading the update for 40 or so minutes I finally installed it. I turned off my antivirus program and internet access. It took a minute or so before the update initiated. At first I thought the program wasn't working because of this long pause. The update took less than 10 minutes.

For me the most important feature was deleted which was the "Home" option where you can start your project. Another feature that wasn't improved is that it still only recognize a 1020x768 16 bit or higher resolution and not my laptop native 1280x800 32bit. Why not have an auto resolution feature instead of manually adjusting to a lower native resolution? Hopefully EMC10 has that feature but then again EMC10 is not worth the upgrade for me since EMC9DE is fine.

At the end I will re-install EMC9DE and forget the update. It's only a minor one update since it's only a 9.1.

The removal of the Home option is not part of the 9.1 patch, so I don't know why it did that for you. I also don't know how it worked at all for you on the Dell OEM edition of the 9.0 software.

You can add me to the list of not being able to install version 9.1

The installation starts and when it is near completion it uninstalls everything!

I have to re-install version 9 and on a second try the same scenario occurred.

Before you ask, Yes, I had the virus protection turned off

Of possible interest, version 9.1 came up with a serial number that was completely different than what came with version 9.

Oh well, so much for this program
