Dvd Music Help Needed

paddykern

Question

I have been unsuccessful at creating a DVD Music disk.

I'm at work so I don't have all of the details.

I have tried two different ways (Music Disc Creator and DVD Music Assistant) to create the disk and they have failed.

Everything seems to go smoothly with the creation.

I select the WMA files to put on the disk.

I tell the program to BURN.

It encodes the menus and files (took over and hour for this).

Sometimes it doesn't write anything to the disk.

Sometimes it writes some small files to the disk.

I have successfully written to a DVD disk on this system (copied backup files) so I know the DVD works on this system. I have also created a DVD video with Roxio 6 on this system in the past.

I have Roxio 8 set to eject the disk when complete, but the disk never ejects automatically.

I have tried to manually close the disk but the program seems to think that the disk is already closed.

I have gone through 7 DVD disks (Verbatim Brand) and each attempt takes over an hour because of the encoding time on my system (Dell).

Any hints as to what I'm doing wrong?

I can provide more information later if that will help.

The Music DVD option is why I upgraded to Roxio 8.

Thanks in advance.

I'll admit it does take a long time so I wouldn't worry there. In the few that I've done, all were successful but only 1 was rather large. I kept everything simple as I could but the only difference between you and me was that I used mp3's and not wma files. Could these be copyprotected? I don't see how it would go thru the complete process without an error message if so but I wonder what happens for you when using other file types.

Like Paul says these discs take a long time to finish. The encoding process can take well over an hour depending on how many tracks you add.I've made them with upwards of 400 tracks and they take a looooong time to encode. The only ones that I haven't had finish had a problem during the encoding stage. If they encode ok they usually burn ok.

Under File,Project Settings, what options did you choose?I don't have one there to eject automatically. As far as finalizing, this should be done when the disc finishes.

First, thank you for the quick reply.

From your reply I think I was doing everything correctly.

I decided to reload the software.

First attempt to burn the music DVD, I noticed that the burner was burning while the encoding was taking place. This did not happen before. The encoding would go for over an hour and then the drive light would come on at the end for a very short period of time.

I had high hopes when the program crashed when 80% done.

Tried again and success!

I must have had some sort of issue when loading the software that the reload fixed. Another hint that my original software load had a problem is that the DRAG TO DISK icon on the desktop was not the nice graphic that came up after the new software load. The first DRAG TO DISK icon was just a box.

So other than the one crash (probably something on my system causing it) I’m happy.

The wife was excited that she has her whole Billy Joel collection on one disk.

This may be a moot point since I hooked up the computer to the stereo and can play the whole collection that way also.

Now I can get back to copying my vinyl LP collection to CD and now to DVD.

Thanks again for the help.

I don't have D2D installed but I don't think that causes a problem, more than likely just the finickiness (is that a word?) of the program. I've had success with almost 2 1/2 hours of music but do remember in testing that some who made extremely long projects had trouble. Anything that takes that long on a system has a better chance of something going wrong IMO and it's been suggested to leave your computer alone while it does it's work, disconnect from the net, shut down virus programs and some busy background programs. Of course, a clean, defragged disc is a must for any computer intensive task.

This is my first time at this...i need help in trying to solve a similar problem. I have burned a few music and picture slideshow productions already. Recently though, my media creator is acting up. On a music dvd project, it encodes and then starts burnig each song. About the 3rd song it quits when an error box come up and thus cancels the project. I am slightly puzzled why this does not work now or why this problem has now surfaced. I updated the firware, on my computer, but am looking for some help in trying to resolve this problem. Can anyone help. It would be appreciated. Thnx Bill Ulysses Ks

I can only stab at a guess that it might be a problem with a certain music file. Try a completely different set of files but just a few and see what happens.
