Roxio Emc 8 Is Infecting My Paperporte Files.

ekavanau

Question

Thank goodness that I have "work-arounds." BUT somehow, all of my Paperport (Scansoft ver.9) folders have become "infected" with a "file" or "organism" that is entitled: ":Roxio EMC STREAM:$DATA". This is only a problem when I try to backup my PP files. I will get a Windows XP message "there is extra information attached to your (file/folder) that might be lost if you continue copying. The contents of the file will not be affected. Information that might be lost includes: :Roxio EMC STREAM:$DATA. Do you want to proceed?

I do proceed and I can back up the folder or file or entire program, BUT, when and if I go to "restore" from the backup, I find that the mysterious Roxio file has been inserted automatically into all of my Paperporte folders and it prevents any "batch" restoration. I must find and delete each of the mysterious Roxio intruders before the restoration procedure will continue. So instead of being able to restore with a simple click of one button, I would have to restore each of 400+ folders separately and each time the process stopped, I would have to find the infected file and delete it before I could proceed.

It's not too easy to describe my problem, except to boil it down: 1) Time for an answer is not critical. 2) I can work around the problem. 3) Can anyone tell me what's going on? 4) Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help you may have. EKavanau@aol.com

Disable RoxWatch via msconfig, and it won't happen again.
