Uninstall 7 Before Installing 8?

csblue

Question

Hi.

Does anyone know if I should uninstall Easy Media Creator 7 before I install Easy Media Creator 8?

I have the retail box version of EMC8 and I have heard that it will prompt me to remove a previous version. Is this the right way to do it or should I completely uninstall EMC7 first?

Thanks for any help,

Steven.

Why?

Steven

I have version 7, build 7.1.1.189

What would I be missing and what are the differences. Are they good or bad?

Thanks,

Stevren

There are some who feel the quality of dvd's suffers a bit in version 8.

Just a few of the things in 8 that's not in 7.1 are:

burning to multiple burners at the same time

burn a disc image and direct to disc at the same time

better dual layer support

Tivo support

much more audio functions like DVD audio disc

better dvd menu control

to name a few

Okay, thanks. A couple of things:

First, do you feel that the quality of DVDs suffers in ver. 8? What is your opinion?

Also, where is that consensus coming from, and is that item alone worth having two complete versions sitting on my computer?

Second, my original question was really a technical question. I'll rephrase it.

If I do decide to remove ver. 7 and install ver. 8, should I let the install of ver. 8 prompt me to remove ver. 7, or should I completely remove ver. 7 myself before I attempt the install of ver. 8?

Thanks,

Steven.

I'll be honest with you....yes. I like the 16:9 support 8 offers and while the quality seems a bit better since 8.05, it is not (for me and some others) as good as 7.5. Some have had no problems at all so I just don't understand why some do and some don't. I could give names but don't feel comfortable doing so but they're welcome to chime in.

I have v7.5 and 8 installed (no Drag to Disc) and use 8 heavily and 7.5 lightly. I use some portion of EMC each and every day between work and home.

My opinion would be to remove it manually, reboot and then make sure the directory is gone then install.

You loose nothing with keeping both installed so I really suggest you do that then remove 7 whenever you are sure you don't need/want it anymore.

My 2 cents worth.

Okay. Thanks for your in-depth reporting. So, just one more question.

What do you use 7.5 for that you wouldn't use 8 for? And I don't have 7.5, I have 7.0.

Thanks again for your time,

Steven

I keep it for the better DVD/Videowave output quality. As I stated, for me, on some of my projects, I've noticed a loss of quality in 8 in these 2 programs.

I, like Paul, keep 7.5 on my computer for the DVD output. Version 8 just doesn't measure up to the quality of 7.5.

However, outside of video work, I use version 8 for everything else. It is an amazing suite.

My 2 cents. I also have version 7.0 (actually 7.1) and keep it on my machine for the outputting video files since I, like some others, have found the quality to be better than Version 8. I use V8 for almost evey thing else such as copying data files, burning music CDs, copying DVD (non-commercial of course), some photo editing, etc.

Hope some of everyone's feedback helps you make the decision.

Hi.

Does anyone know if I should uninstall Easy Media Creator 7 before I install Easy Media Creator 8?

You don't have to remove anything to install 8 with the exception of Drag to Disc. For most people, 8 does everything they need but until you are sure that you aren't missing anything you use regularly, you might want to keep 7 on for awhile. Depending on exactly what version of 7 you have, you'll notice lots of differences.
