Dvd Builder Dvd Won't Play In Dvd Machine

starspine

Question

Hi

I've just put together a basic DVD with two titels - one with a slide show of pics to music and another with a short video clip. On my PC using WInDVD/ Windows Media Player I can play the whole thing see the titles and menus I created and navigate around 100%.

If however I use a normal DVD machine to play the DVD on my tv it ejects the disc giving me a disc error. If I try and copy the disc with DVDXCopy Platinum on my pc it says error reading primary volume descriptor.

Any ideas whats going on or what the problem could be? Using a Plextor PX-716A DVD burner.

Home made dvd's sometimes aren't liked by all set top players. Make sure the disc is clean and also the player. I have the same Plextor with the latest firmware and have very few problems so make sure you have the latest firmware.

You can try another media preferably the brand the maker of your player suggests....brands do make a difference for many.

Also, burning to an image file then using Disc Copier to burn to disc instead of burning directly to disc from DVD Builder, may help as well.

-First up the discs are clean out the box wit not a fingerprint or mark on them. The player is clean and plays all other dvd's without a hitch.

-I have just updated the firmware for the Plextor so maybe that will help havent tried yet.

-Media must be fine as I have burnt many other DVD's with the same discs and all work 100% fine. Burnt with DVDX Copy and Roxio normal file copying. Just had the problem with DVD builder.

- Will also try burning to an image file first

Will report back later on the results many thanks.

What brand of media are you using with your Plextor? I use Verbatim +R and -R and have not had any problems.

If that burned video plays on you computer and not on you set top DVD player, then your set top player does not like the media, or the lens is dirty. Try a different brand of media, and get a DVD laser cleaning disc from Radio Shack or whatever store you have in your area.

I am also seeing similar problem: Plays OK in computer but failes in DVD (TV) player. See my post as newjourney2006.

Also look up your DVD specs at

Good luck to us both!

"If I try and copy the disc with DVDXCopy Platinum on my pc it says error reading primary volume descriptor"

This sounds like a bad disc.

Try a disc quality check tool like cddvdspeed or dvdinfopro. ( google free download) Run the disc quality and scan disc checks to verify the disc is good. Then try other players not pc drive I have had many a bad disc's play in pc drives.

What brand of disc are you using? What model of dvd player is it?
