I was going to suggest update firmware but when I went to the Lite-On site and searched for that 4836k, I could not find it. From the e-mail address, you seem to be in the US. Perhaps you transposed some numbers? Please repost that burner ID. It is possible that that burner is re branded so the site may not have listed it.

I am not a computor expert and do not know how to get all the info you wanted. I will list what I know.

HP Compaq Presario AMD Sempron processor 3200+ 1.80 GHZ 448 MB ram

SR1616NX lite on combo SOHC 4836K DVD/CD-R

I am using easy 8 creator.

I am using the slide show program.. I can load the photos and the sound with no problem. When I play the preview everything is ok. My problem starts when I burn. The following are the steps I take.

Click burn,go to projest settinghs and the following items are checked. menu aspect 4.3, std NTSC, custom, I click burn and after the photos are encoded I get the following error code. 80180013 while creating a VCD. At one time I also got the error code 80170021. Thanks for you quick response and help. joe

You don't have to be an expert to know what you bought ! I'm going to guess that it is a 2000Z model. Is that correct? Here are the upgrades for it. Since you are not a compueter expert, you might taking that laptop to a friends house and have that friend update the drivers (if the ones you have are not the latest). The burner update is really a firmware update and that is usually a little more tricky. The burner update for that computer lists a different burner.

Just found that burner and there are no updates for it.

Please post the model number of that computer - that has to be on the bottom of your computer.

Also you might consider downloading and running "Belarc Advisor". It is free and free of malware. It will tell you a lot about your computer.

Actually there are about 5 or 6 possibilities for a slide show program - which one are you using? It could be Photosuite, VideoWave, MyDVD, or any of the assistants. Don't use assistants some have been known to cause problems. Try starting with VideoWave or see if the program you are using will allow you to edit in VideoWave.

In either case, when you go to burn the production to disc, you have to select what kind of disc you are going to burn it to. If you are indeed using Phoutsuite and click the burn button, DVD Express will open. Make sure that you select vcd or svcd. (See image).

When the computer is rendering that file to burn onto a disc, make sure that you turn off your internet, close all running programs including the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs (after making sure you have run them to check and delete any malware programs.

If you have done all that and you still can't do it, post back.

That probably means that there was a bad install. If you moved either the images or the music, the program would have given you a chance to browse for them. Go to Windows/Control Panel/Add-remove programs and select the Roxio V8 program, on the right, select repair. Have your discs handy since it will ask you to insert them. After you have tried that, post back.

Did you install both the program and the content disc. This shouldn't cause the problem if you did not but no harm in asking.

Sorry it took so long to get my part done. I tried the repair method but had a problem because my computer said I had another program using it. I could find anything running so I deleted the two programs and reinstalled both discs. I was prompted to upgrade which I did and I also found my recorder on the ok list.

I went to video wave and ran a test show with sound and believe it or not it worked. I want to tell you that you made a 77 year old man happy. Now I can go back to my project this year which is to take my phots and burn them to cds. Thanks for all of your help.

My next project is to take my analog videos and burn them to cds. Do you recommend any particulr pragram or method.

Thanks again. joe

I am glad you got things working, Joe.

I would suggest though that you invest in a DVD burner and burn to a DVD. The quality on a CD is very poor compared to a CD especially for slideshow. Not all DVD players will play VCDss

Do you think that I will have any problems with the Roxio program if I add a Sony DRU810A/16X8X16 DVD+RW burner? I checked with hp and they said ok and sent me a link on how to do this. :)

You should be fine with that burner. Just make sure that you have the latest firmware installed.

You may want to start with explaining what you are trying to burn to a CD and what program within EMC 8 that you are using.

Also, list your system specs, similar to the way I have them listed in my signature.
