twiggypuss
I have been burning cd's without problems, but if I put in a dvd it doesn't recognise that I have inserted a disc. I have tried +r & -r.

A cd burner will not burn dvd discs, so do you have a DVD burner?
james_hardin
Are we talking about Classic? DVD Builder? Disc Copier?

tbrewst
What Larry is asking is what drive do you have in your computer? What is the make and model. If you're not sure look in device manager under dvd/cd drives.
lynn98109
To be more specific, right-click on "My Computer", go to the bottom line of the menu and click on "properties", (if WinXP, choose the Hardware tab) and then Device Manager. Click on the CDROM icon, and copy the 'id string' for the CD-ROM device - includilng all letters, numbers, and spaces - EXACTLY. All of us suspect the same thing, unless checking the id string proves otherwise: you may have a 'combo' drive - CD-RW/DVD-ROM - one that both plays and burns CDs, and plays DVDs but cannot burn them. Lynn Thank you for your precise instructions - you obviously realised I'm not exactly an expert at this computer lark! The id is: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502. Sounds like your theory is correct? Sounds like your theory is correct? Actually, no, it isn't a combo drive, it is a DVD-ROM. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=T...ons&btnG=Search There is no way it can burn anything. If you want to burn DVDs, you are going to have to get a DVD burner. Lynn
twiggypuss
Please forgive my ignorance, but I thought that's why I bought the cd/dvd creator?
lynn98109
Please forgive my ignorance, but I thought that's why I bought the cd/dvd creator? You need a drive which is capable of burning a CD or DVD before software designed for burning can create one. It's the same that no matter how fancy a graphics program you buy, you have to have a printer before it can print anything. And if you get a dot-matrix printer, it won't be able to print the fancy stuff the graphics program sends it, and will probably just leave blank places.
