VideoWave 8 audio problems

Darry

Question

I'm getting really frustrated! I've spent more time trying to get the sound to work on the video I'm editing than I have on the editing!

Here's the background:

I've loaded some avi files into VideoWave and now I'm trying to add some narration and some background music.

I can see that the files are there in the Timeline view but they don't all play!

Sometimes I can get them to play if I click on them or try and edit them in internal tracks but then others won't play.

I think that even if I placed them all together they would then all play at once, but when they overlap, they all seem to go silent!

I've read some forums and I now save every change I make, right after I do it and I also frequently clear the proxy files.

The music file that I added, I changed to wav before using it.

Help!

Here's some computer info:

I'm running Windows XP home edition on an Intel Pentium 4 (300GHz) processor.

I have a 200 Gig hard drive with lots of extra space.

I have 1 GB of ram.

I have a Creative SB0400 Audigy 2 sound card

Am I doing something wrong when I'm adding narration and music?

In most cases, I have tried to place the music or narration on the internal track of a clip. Is this wrong or stupid?

Why don't the tracks play when I play the clip back?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Darry McGaw

If the narration or the music is supposed to be tied to that clip, then adding it to the internal clips is the way to go. How long is the clip and how long is the narration and music? Both should be equal or less than the length of the clip. What are you doing with the native audio of the clip?

Click on the audio track that you want to see. Is the sound level as shown by the line in that track half way up or less? Click on the icon just to the right of the one that looks like a microphone. It will take a minute or two but you should see a wave form. Is it there and not "overfilling" the track display. If there is no wave form, then the audio was recorded at too low a level or it is just not there.

You may want to play around with the relative volumes of the tracks. If they are all at max, they may be giving your sound card a problem. Make sure your audio drivers are up to date. We always talk about video drivers but the audio ones are just as important.

If none of the above work, there is one more thing to try. Go to Windows start run and type in dxdiag. Click OK, When the window opens, click on the Sound Tab and turn down the audio acceleration. Perhaps that good sound card is just too good and can't keep up with all the inputs. Try all the way first then you can up it as needed.

The above are guesses so they are things to troubleshoot the issue. I don't have a historical fix for you.

Thanks for your suggestions. All the ausio files are on the proper tracks and the volume is set properly so I went to the dxdiag sound tab as you suggested. I didn't change anything because it seemed to be working properly through all the tests but I appreciate knowing about this tool and will refer to it again I'm sure.

What's happened is that as I was mucking around again today in the project, I discovered that if I attached every narration and every bit of music to a specific clip, then everything seemed to work. I did a lot more editing and narration today and so far, it seems to be OK so maybe I have it figured out?

Thanks again. You don't know how many days it has taken me to get this to work properly.

Cheers,

Darry
