Try a different browser - I used Firefox to download my stuff and have no problems

Also, make sure you have no pop-up blockers running (you say you already disabled the FW and AV)

In Firefox - try a right click on the file and 'Save Link as'

But then - strange things do happen in the Great Marsh of Munster  (Corcaigh Mór Mumhan)

Don't forget that there's a holiday over there so it may take a day or two to get a reply back, but you should be able to get it - also try contacting Roxio Customer Services - deteils here

For Irish (and lessons) look up Conradh na Gaeilge - there is a Cork branch and they do have a bar (I sort of vaguely recollect being there:lol: )

Hello gi7omy,

well I am still stuck with this EMC 10 download ..this must be my 100th time trying ...uninstall my downloadmanager and so on and keep trying but each time I am getting ans "efw" file instead of an "exe" file and does not open at all once downloaded (which download last at least over one hour and I have a broadband connection...).Is this normal or what. Now today I receive the back up CD..will it be better to install it from it (but read on this forum that it should be 3 cd and I got only one ????)

can you give me advice

thanks for your time and help

I thought that may have been the problem - but maybe you should have changed them to .exe instead of .zip (I sort of slipped there as I knew the original files were self-extracting archives that can be opened with winzip or winrar)

More info on the .efw extension is here

"Compressed .ZIP or .RAR or executable .EXE files will be renamed by CA Internet Security Centre, CA Anti-Virus, etc., to have a ".efw" extension; historically this only applied to e-mail attachments, but in recent updated version of CA software expanded to include almost any files downloaded via web browser scanned by Computer Associates (CA) anti-virus software.

Computer Associates (CA, Inc.)

company web site: http://www.ca.com/

support site: http://supportconnect.ca.com/

Solution(s):

EFW files may be opened by changing the file extension to ".zip" or ".rar" (which ever the original file was named) and opening the file with a decompression utility, such as WinRAR, WinZip, or Stuffit Expander.

Change anti-virus software."

I'd install, using the DVD that you just got, and forget about the download.

I actually use CA Internet Security Suite 9.1 and have for three years or more. The first part of your statement is true "historically this only applied to e-mail attachments" It is, it does, and the renaming works fine.

The second part is total BOLOGNA, wherever it came from! EMC 9, EMC 10, Nero 7, and Nero 8, plus countless other downloads without one problem caused by CA software.

Glad you got it sorted an hope you have fun

Just for reference - to change a file extension, go to the folder, Tools, folder options, view and clear the tick bos for 'hide extensions for known file types' - change the extension and then reset it
