Can't burn project

vhammond

Question

I've searched the forum and may be missing something, but heres the problem. I have Roxio media creator 8, and I am trying to use Videowave 8 MyDVD and Disc copier. The version for all of those programs is 805B30B ENU. I am running Windows XP pro and using a Plextor PX-716A burner with the latest firmware updates. I am burning to Verbatim DVD+R discs. After reading several posts from 2006, I have created a movie, ( it is actually a slide show.....still photos with transitions and an audio track) in Videowave 8. From the drop down menu I selected "burn with myDVD express" In myDVD express under disc format I selected "dvd without menues", clicked "create disc", the Burn Project window opened showing my drive..."D:\Plextor-DVDR PX716A". I checked "save disc image file".....c:\image.iso and clicked "burn". The burn project window opens showing "overall progress" and "current task (encoding) with the encoding preview visible. After a while current task goes to "burning image". After burn is 100% complete, "overall progress" is 97% complete and then goes to 100%.The disc is not ejected and no further menu comes up. I click "OK". The disc appears burned, but no files are visible in My Computer when clicking on the drive and the disc will not play in Power DVD. I have tried saving the .iso file and burning with Disccopier........the burning completes the disc is ejected and appears burned but no files are visible and the disc will not play. I have tried burning the .iso file with DVD Decrypter and Imgburn with no success. I also tried creating a slideshow in Mydvd without going through Videowave 8 with the same results. Any suggestions on what I am missing?? By the way I tried the Mydvd compilation on another computer and burner with the same results.

Try just burning a data disc with Creator Classic, and see if that Plextor 716A will burn it. Your Plextor may be dead. I had the 716A, and it went belly up after having it for 15 months, and my use would be termed "light".

Thanks for all the help. It was the #$^@ Plextor burner. I moved the project to another machine, followed sknis steps and it all worked on an LG burner. And by the way that machine had IE 7 and WMP 11 installed.

Thanks again.

Whew, do you talk like that also? I took the opportunity to do a little paragraphing to help understand what you wrote.

I have a couple of suggestions:

1) When you have the project done in VideoWave, save it as a project . While it is still open, go to the icon above the preview screen that looks like a film reel. Select that and then output your project to a mpg for DVD best quality. Let the program encode the project. If it stops before it is finished, there is something in the project doesn't like. Note the time and see what is going on at that time. It could be bad timings around a transition, a bad music file - remember no on-line purchased music can be added - or ??? Since you'll have the time, where there is an issue, you should be able to track it down.

2) After that is done, close VideoWave and open MyDVD, try not to use MyDVD express. Again, you can select DVD no menu under new project. Simply all the mpg2 file. Since it is already encoded, the program will not encode it again. You should be able to burn directly to disc.

3) For future reference, burn to an ISO file on your hard drive OR burn to a DVD; not both.

4) Are you sure you used the right firmware to update that burner?

5) Have you burned to +R DVD before?

6) Have you tried another brand/package of disc? Perhaps you just have a few bad ones in the package.

Steps 1) and 2) may be already what you tried but with all the jumping around and no paragraphs, it is hard to understand.

I'm sure you are using XP; have you istalled IE 7 and/or WMP 11; if so roll them back.

1. Completed suggestion 1 with no problems. The project was encoded with no hang ups.

2. Opened MyDVD, selected "new project", "dvd-no menus". I clicked the "burn" icon and the burn project window came up. I checked "burn to disc" clicked the burn button and it started the encoding process again, even though an mpg2 file was selected.

3. After encoding completed, the burn process began. After the "overall progress" reached 100% , the dvd tray was not ejected. The only indication the process was complete was the OK button on the window.

4. After clicking OK i ejected the disc and it would not play.

5. I have used the right firmware 716A-111

6. I have burned approximatly 50 DVD movies to DVD+ discs as well as an equal number to DVD-R

7. The package of Verbatim discs was 100. I had used about 25 from this batch before this project. I have used about 12 so far on this project.

8.I am using Windows XP pro. I have IE 6 installed. I rolled back WMP 11 to WMP 10

Further update:

1. I restarted computer to insure WMP11 rollback had taken place.

2. In step 2 of above, the encoding task went very quickly and it showed mpeg in the preview window.

3. I switched to a memorex DVD-R disk and tried to burn. Burn process got to 33% and froze.

4. Restarted computer and tried burn with Verbatim DVD-R disk. The burn completed very quickly, but when I tried to play the disc in Power DVD, the message I got was "DVD-Video playback graph building failed"

Plextor burners were the Cadillac of burners, prior to the 716A. Plextor no longer makes their own burners. I think that the failure of the first 716A burners they produced, was the last straw in their demise.

I have no clue how you got EMC 8 to work properly with IE7 and WMP 11 on the computer. How did you get it to work properly? You may be the only one in the world to have it work with those two on your computer. :)

Step 2 This step is what is supposed to happen.

Did you try playing that DVD with the player in EMC 8, with WMP, or with a stand alone DVD player?

Now it sounds like there is a problem with Power DVD since you are getting a message about "playback graph". If it was "render graph" then it would be the Roxio program.

Cyberlink has a pretty good response to asked questions process so you might want to try that. The first thing I would try is a Windows/.../Add or Remove programs/repair of that program.

Sometimes trees and the forest.;)
