video wave and my DVD crash

kilroy jones

Question

I had easy media creator 7, but it was limited on it's ability to capture from DVDs and it crashes if I try to install Internet explorer 7. So I forked over good money for teh version 10 and it is much better on teh capture side but no matter what I do, it will not work when I try to open video wave and myDVD.

I have completly uninstalled it following the instructions and using the Windows install clean up program.

I have the latest version of my driver for the Nvidia GE Force 6600 video card. I have turned off acceleration.

I have updated to the latest version of Windows Media Player.

NOTHING WORKS!!!

Unless the geniuses that created this POS software can figure out how to make it work, I'm returning it to the store as defective.

I am running windows XP home edition. The computer is using an Athlon 64 processor 3200+ with 2G Ram on an emachine T6414.

You could try to contact them directly, because no one here made the software that you are using. We are users like you.

I was having this exact problem when another poster referred me to a previous post.

See http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=27504

After reading this previous post I wasn't able to change the video acceleration on my video card but I did go into the install directory of Roxio as directed in the above posting and I created a submenu into which I moved all of the offending menus. Apparently my video card could not handle the default menu that MyDVD uses when it opens and every time it tried to open, it crashed. After I moved all of the offending menus out of the Roxio directory, MyDVD and videowave worked like a charm. The only downside is that I will not be able to use those few menus without a video card upgrade. You can try this and see if it helps. Good Luck

Brandt...

I followed these instructions and my crash went away. I have already burned two picture DVD's.

Go into:

C:\Program Files\Roxio\VideoUI 10\Content\Video which contains the wmv files for the menu styles. There are ones 1900 x 1200. These are the culprits that cause the crash. Has to do with your video drivers and possibly whether or not the vid card can reach this resolution. What I did was created a second folder called Video Large and moved all the 1900 x 1200 menus to that folder. Now...open MyDVD and it shouldn't crash...I have now burned two picture DVD's and never a crash. My program now runs as advertised.
