Sequential Pictures Fade-in

orborn

Question

Am creating a production in VideoWave7. I have inserted a background picture in storyboard view. Switching to Timeline View, I drag another picture to the overlay track, double-click and configure it to fade into view at a specific location on the background picture. So far, so good.

What I want to do is to have other pictures (8) fade into view (in sequential order) on the same background, each taking its place beside the previous picture, and when the sequence is done, to have all 9 pictures visible on the background. Seems it would be pretty simple if more tracks were available.

Any suggestions on how to do this, or is it not possible with this program. Thanks for any suggestions.

Well, it is lots of work to get what you want. There are two overlay tracks. One is internal and the other is the external one that you probably used. To get to the internal overlay track, double click on that background picture, and you can then insert your second picture.

Now, if you want to add other pictures to that same background, you have to output what you have now, to an mpeg file, or a DVI AV file. I suggest the latter.

Once you have done that, open VideoWave, bring that new file back in, and you have the original pictures on it, and you can now add two more pictures. Repeat the output procedure, and keep doing that until you get all 8 pictures.

There is another way to try doing this, but it requires starting out witha photo editing program that can create a 'collage'.

If you have the EMC 7/7.5 suite, rather than the standalone version of Videowave, you can use PhotoSuite to do this.

Basically, you start out by creating a collage in the phot editing program. Give it a black background. Add the first photo, size & position it, now save as an image file (something like pic1.jpg). Now add the next photo to the collage, size & position it. Save as an image file (pic2.jpg). Continue to add & save until you get all 9 pic files. the last one would contain all 9 photos in the collage.

In Videowave then, add the files, in order from pic1 thru pic 9. Adjust the durations, add fade transitions, and you should get the result you're looking for. Hopefully :)

Bruce:

I tried your suggestion and it worked but the result was unsatisfactory. When the playback reached the point where I dropped in the output file I created, the pictures shifted positions ever so slightly and the colors changed a shade or two, which made it look amateurish.

I haven't tried Larry's suggestion yet. If that doesn't work I guess it's back to the drawing board to come up with another--and simpler--scheme.

But anyway, I really appreciate the both of you taking the time to offer suggestions. I'll be back.
