Media must be greater then DVD Burn Specs?

Does the media you use have to be rated higher then what the DVD writes at? Or can you downgrade the DVD Burner. I see their is an Option setting that let's me set the burn rate to MAX or 1x. Since my DVD burner can do DVD +R at 16x, are those my only 2 options?

The program will actually test write the media and adjust for current conditions. The user should leave everything alone.

Update the firmware for your burner.
