Adding Text

Floyd

Question

Hello. Has adding text to a video slide show presentation changed since the EMC 9.0 release? I just upgraded this morning to v10.0 and I'm trying to add text to each of my slides (pictures), but for some reason, when I add text, it's adding it to the ENTIRE production. I went in and added it to an Internal Track for just the slide, but this seems to require a lot more time than I recall when using the previous releases of your product. Typically, I use the same font (I believe in the previous release it was called 'News'--it was a simple white arial font with a black outline) and I could change the way it comes in on the screen and leaves (i.e. Dissolve in/out; Slide in from the Right and out to the Left; etc. etc.).

I suspect I am overlooking something obvious but I've been trying to figure this out for the past hour and am hoping someone knows what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for your help.

If you select "Add Text Effect" from the task pane, it always ask how you would like to insert the text: add to the entire production or insert in the internal track. This functionality is the same for versions 9 and 10.

Adding the text in the internal track of the image is the way to do it if you want the text to "stay" with the image. The style "News Crawl" is one of the available text styles and appears to be the one that fits your description. Once you have setup the text for the first image, you can save that as a user-defined style in the Settings dialog box (click the New button) which you can use as boiler plate for texts in other images. Or you can simply copy the text and paste onto next image and modify the wordings.

To copy, selct the text object (step 1 below) and right click on it. Then select Copy (step 2). That copies the text object on clipboard.

In Timeline, click anywhere (blank space) under the image/clip on the Video track where you want to paste the text. Once pasted, adjust the text object position and duration, accordingly. This method should work in either in the production or internal track.

First, I want to thank you for responding and providing me the detailed information I needed.

In reference to the last part about 'copying' the text and pasting it onto the next image, how do I do that? Do I have to edit the text on the Internal Track on the previous slide then copy it then go into the Internal Track of the next slide and paste it? I'm trying to avoid going into the Internal Track as this appears to take a significant amount of time to exit it each time.

Again, thanks for your assistance.

The following only applies if you want text to apply to one slide.

It may seem like it takes more time to add the text to the internal tracks but it may save significant time and problems later on. If you add the text on the main tracks you have drag the end of the text so that it does not spill over to the next slide. Suppose you decide to insert a new slide in the middle of your timeline. All the slides to the right get shifted but not the text. You would then have move every single text on the main track. You can see how that could get to be a big problem. The same also applies to any overlays and effects you have applied to a particular slide.
