tsantee
Hi, I just got Popcorn 3 and I installed it three times and put it in the trash. It still won't launch. Do you have any Firewire devices connected other than external optical or hard drives? If so, disconnect them and try launching Popcorn again. FGB
same problem here. New IMAC...loaded up popcorn 3 added to applications as instructed and that was the last she wrote. It will not launch
tsantee
Trash the Popcorn plist file in your User>Library>Preferences folder and see if that fixes the problem.
Sixten
Same problem here, except that... While Popcorn 3 won't launch at all on my iMac (Intel Core 2 Extreme, Mac OS X 10.5.1) it installs and runs perfectly well on my MacBook (Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X 10.5.1) which is not equipped with a DVD-R however, so I cannot use the software on my MacBook... Still waiting for an an answer to my ticket to tech support... P.S. None of the suggestions on this thread worked for me...
jaeger bob
You are not the only one. #$^@ bad timing too. I have a project due. > I installed 3.0.2, disconnected firewire, no Xvid. I start Popcorn and select an image file containing a DVD image and see the beachball - then Popcorn dies. Can someone explain to me why MountIt can't just mount a .IMG file? Can I just rename the extension of the DVD burn image to something MountIt understands?
tsantee
same problem here. New IMAC...loaded up popcorn 3 added to applications as instructed and that was the last she wrote. It will not launch I think I recall someone posting that they were using a font manager and either Toast or Popcorn (I don't recall which) wouldn't launch without certain fonts active. You might try booting in safe mode and seeing if Popcorn launches.
Sixten
Solved!!! While the version installed on my iMac was 3.0.2, I downloaded from Roxio's site (Support>Software Updates) the update file "Popcorn_302_219_Updater", which is the same version (3.0.2). However, replacing the old file with the updated it solved the problem! Try this one, mates, and I hope it will work for you as well...
nicknmadison
I have tried all of the suggestions in this forum and nothing has worked. I used Popcorn 2 with the updates on the same Intel based imac on which I updated to Leopard. To date nothing works and it seems I have hit a dead end. I also went back to the Apple store and they had no idea.... Okay folks, now what? Nick
peabo56
Same thing happened to me when purchased new Popcorn 3 - had to download upgrade to 3.02, then it launched. I am also using Mac Leopard 10.5.
tsantee
Have you downloaded Popcorn 3.0.2 from Roxio's software update page? Do you have an Xvid codec in your root Library>Quicktime folder? If so, delete it. Disconnect and Firewire devices other than hard drives or optical drives. When the the key was put in I was not on the web and it will not give me an opportunity to redo now on the web even after uninstalling and reinstalling. The usual reason Popcorn doesn't launch is a conflict with a third-party codec in the QuickTime folder in either your user or root Library folder. Try removing those codecs and see if it launches. If it does launch then add the codecs back until you find the one causing the problem. An early version of Perian and a version of Xvid have been reported as problems. If you have Perian there probably are ones remaining that you don't need. Go to perian.org to see which ones it replaces.
Mizguru234
I too was very frustrated with Popcorn3 until I read the last message on this page from Sixten. I downloaded the update from the Roxio site and replaced the old file when prompted. Now popcorn 3 works like a charm for me. Thanks Sixten
Kimberdk
I'm having this same problem too. I tried removing the codecs from the Quicktime folder, as suggested by tsantee; it didn't solve the problem. I sent a ticket to tech support yesterday, no response yet. Has anyone figured this out yet??

Softwizard
Have you downloaded Popcorn 3.0.2 from Roxio's software update page? Do you have an Xvid codec in your root Library>Quicktime folder? If so, delete it. Disconnect and Firewire devices other than hard drives or optical drives. I am getting the same thing. I ran the 3.02 update and Popcorn launched once. I do not have any Xvid codecs installed (only Quicktime and the windows media player codec). More ideas? How many other people are having this problem?
inhisownright
I too have encountered a problem with Popcorn 3. I upgraded to leopard a month ago. I noticed that Popcorn 2 wouldn't work in Leopard and that Popcorn 3 would. I purchased an upgrade and then downloaded the version which they stated would work. A few weeks later, when I would launch popcorn, it gave me a notice that the time frame was running out and that i should consult roxio for the latest update and gave me the options to continue or purchase the burner (which i already have). I contacted them about the situation and this is what they said: "Drag your Popcorn folder to your trash then go to www.roxio.com then go to Support -> Software Updates, select your product and install the latest update." I done that and now, what remains won't launch. Is their any idea as to what I can do? Thanks
TimWayne
I downloaded Popcorn 3.0.2b7, per the instructions in the forum. Now, when I start up Popcorn, I get this message: "Sorry, this pre-release version has expired. Please contact Roxio for a release version or a new beta." I am so frustrated. I have gone back and forth with this company. First they don't release a patch ahead of the Leopard release. Then the patch EXPIRES? WTF? Why should it EVER expire?
