Frank Sinatra
Just a quick note to say Thank You for all of the great information shared on this marvelous board. Thanks to the helpful and knowledgeable people here, I have seemingly solved a long, aggravating problem with my crappy Easy CD Creator 5.2 that was shipped with my Dell Dimension 4550 back in early 2003. I primarily used it to copy and/or create Audio CDs, although I would occasionally copy/make data CDs, too. Anyway, the software was crap from the start on Windows XP Home, Service Pack 1. Then, just a year or so ago, I patched Windows with Service Pack 2. After that, the software went south and was completely useless. Eventually, I uninstalled it and swore that I would create a Roxio Voodoo doll and spend my free time thinking of creative (no pun intended) ways to torture it. Eventually, I released my hostility (mostly) about the matter. Now, just last night, after about a year, I lost my mind and decided to install Easy CD Creator 5.2 again. Why? Because I love the pain... After using Google to search for a patch to allow Easy CD Creator 5.2 to run on Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2, I found this magical utopia. Here is a brief summary of my experience. I hope it is at least some small benefit to someone out there. ================================================ This is a Windows XP Home Edition PC with Service Pack 2 installed prior to the following steps. 1. Installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.2 from CD-ROM 2. Rebooted 3. Disc Copier did not work 4. Using "Add/Remove Programs," I uninstalled Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.2 5. Rebooted 6. Ran RoxioZap 7. Rebooted 8. Installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.2 from CD-ROM 9. Ran "Updates Easy CD Creator 5.x.x Basic and Starter Kit to 5.3.5" found at the bottom of http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/software_updates/ 10. Ran patch download from Dell to update Roxio Easy CD creator 5.3.x.xx basic to v 5.3.5.17 found at http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...p;fileid=113880 11. Rebooted 12. Tried to copy disc and received "E80004005: Unspecified error" 13. Using Google, I found this error likely relates to the CD/DVD drivers. Source: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/EEZ000009 14. From the Dell Support site (I have an older Dell Dimension 4550), I downloaded the most current firmware (several years old) for my CD and DVD drives. 15. Rebooted At this point, everything seems to work fine. No more errors or hang-ups. ================================================ Again, I extend a big THANK YOU to everyone here!
