Record Audio over Existing Sound File

javaman

Question

I have a pre-recorded sound file of a piano accompaniment. In sound editor, is there a way to play back the accompaniment AND record a vocal over it at the same time? Is there another application that will allow this? My last resort would be to record the vocal separately and mix the two together, but I'll still need a way to play back the accompaniment at the same time so tempos and pitch match.

Thanks,

J

One idea I have is through Videowave.

Add a color panel. Then bring in the sound file to the audio track. Adjust length of color panel to match the duration of the audio. Then use Narration for the vocal. After the recording session, output the production as a video file.

Open Media Manager, navigate to the file and right click. Select Extract audio. That should have the sound and the recorded vocal.
