Additional comments: Installation problem - Catch 22 - Windows XP with Creator

7 already installed.

I purchased a retail version of Creator 8.

When I installed Creator 8, it asked if I wanted it to remove the old version 7.

I said Yes. Creator 8 installer started Windows Installer to remove Ver 7 and

went mostly through uninstall of 7 and stopped. Computer froze. I waited quite

a while. I was forced to reboot.

When I rebooted, Installer immediately came on and tried to continue to

uninstall 7, but could not do so. I can stop the attempts by stopping installer

through Windows task manager.

I managed to install Creator 8 and it seems to work. I am not quite sure how I

accomplished that installation, because now I cannot install anything else.

Now Windows installer starts immediately when I start the computer. It

immediately comes up with the "Preparing to install" window.

Then a window comes up that says: "Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. Please wait

while Windows configures Roxio Easy Media Creator 7"

Next it comes up with a window that says "Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 - Uninstall

Wizard. Unable to find a certificate file." It stops. I click on OK.

Then it comes up with a window that says: "Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 -

Uninstall Wizard. There was a problem authenticating your version. Please

make sure your system is set to current date".

Date and time are correct. I click on OK.

It starts the process again. Tries to configure, cannot find certificate file,

cannot authenticate. Seems to be an endless loop.

I remove Windows Installer from task manager and it is then no longer shown in

task manager. However, every time I re-start installer to perform another

install-uninstall task, it is locked into trying to remove Creator 7.

I downloaded the update for Creator 8 (I think it was V. 8.05), but when I tried

to install it, Windows Installer was already running and I received the message:

Error 1500. Another installation is already in progress. You must complete

that installation before configuring this one.

Now I discover that I cannot install or remove any programs.

I talked to one of your technical support people earlier today, and he told me

how to download Windows Installer Cleanup, msicuu2.exe from the Microsoft

website. I went ahead and did that but discovered (Duh!) that I cannot install

that either. I keep getting the same Error 1500 message.

How do I break Installer out of it desire to immediately try to continue to

uninstall Creator 7?

Thanks.

If you have XP you could always do a restore to get it back to the way it was before you installed.

I didn't uninstall my version 7 when I installed 8. (Got an old project I might want to change.)

You might also want to stay away from the patch. It has caused my program to crash all the time now. (Still waiting to hear about this.)

Maybe the techs on here might have a better solution for you though.

I had the same problem as DirtDoc@comcast.net. I managed to get around it and cleanly install version 8. but every once in a while it tries to install or uninstall something from 7 when I go to open a program that's from Ver 8. Doing a restore isn't an option because I have that nonsence turned off and there is no restore point to go back to. I too have sessions created from 7 that I learned the hard way, are not compatable in ver 8 (for WHAT reason I'm still trying to figure that out, seems there is no backward compatabillity with any of roxio's programs EVER) but I can re-create most of anything I wanted to do over (except that frustrating animated menu button option that I can not turn off)

-I'm about to just give up and go to another software which just pisses me off because I've spent a lot of money trying to make these work (from ver 6-8) <sigh>

You can also try the Windows installer cleanup utility

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;290301

If it has EMC7 listed highlight it and click remove, exit. That should remove all leftovers of EMC7 and stop Windows installer from trying to install/uninstall it. Or, if that for some reason breaks EMC8, remove all Roxio items in the cleanup utility's list, then reinstall EMC8.
