audio sync probs - where do I find the list of things to try?

senna1594

Question

Hi - I have tried to be a good forum attendee by searching for my problem ahead of time (search criteria, various combinations of: audio, sync, problem, convert, ipod) but most of the responses I would see were that "we have been over this many times" yet I could not find the actual list of proposed solutions that many people referred to. Sorry about that in advance!

I have been using Roxio EMC9 for most of this year, and have just started trying to get it to create ipod videos of my DVD's.

I have a pretty powerful Dell Desktop (core 2 duo, less than 1 yr old) with 4gb of RAM, 2 fast SATA drives, and no other things going on with the PC during conversion.

I import the DVD as an .iso file and then take that .iso file (of the movie) and use the Roxio convertor to create a file in the ipod-video format. I get a picture, and for about 40 or so minutes I get matched up audio and video, but then it gets bad.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

This seems to happen to many people for unknown reasons in many cases. A number of users have reported that working with smaller pieces of a large file helps some but not all the time. It's more work but worth a try.

Audio sync is an on and off problem for a large number of software video programs. Some are luckier than others but I know of no single answer that works for everyone.

However, keeping your hard drive defragged helps not only video work but all hard drive work. Shutting down background programs may help as well. Some virus programs that update on their own might start up and cause problems as well so if possible, disconnect from the net and shut down those programs.

Paul - thanks for the quick response. When dealing with a DVD and creating a .iso file out of it, how would I break that into smaller pieces? I dont even know how I would do that?

It's almost not worth it to me! But, you can use Videowave. You'd have to capture the dvd to your hard drive and import it into Videowave. There may be other software that might do this faster such as File Splitter Pro or VideoReDo. It can become tedious and might not even achieve what you want in the end. But, might be worth a try to see how it goes.
