Loud hum on monitor output with non-default sample rate

Alan Law

Question

CD Spin Doctor: A very loud hum occurs on any Sample Rate selection other than the default of 41000 Hz 16 or 24 bits when the "Play input through Speakers" is selected. There is ONLY hum and no input signal can be heard. With 48000 Hz Sample Rate selection, audio is briefly heard, then is replaced by the hum. The problem can be reproduced 100% of the time. The hum is NOT due to improper grounding of input audio cables or devices. The tone of the hum changes with the Sample Rate selection chosen. The input audio is however properly captured and recorded; however, you can not monitor the audio input being recorded. All previous versions of CD Spin Doctor I have used have functioned properly with these application selections.

iMac G5 OS X V10.4.11, Toast V8.0.3, CD Spin Doctor V 4.0.2.333t

Other audio applications (Audacity, Audio Hijack Pro, Fussion, Amadeus Pro, Garage Band) function properly. I record through USB, Line-In and Internet audio-streaming. CD Spin Doctor is the only audio application giving me problems. Audio MIDI Setup / Audio Devices selections appears to be correct.

I have just bought Toast 9, and I get the same hum instead of music a few minutes after a recording starts.

Seems OK if I turn off "Play Input through Speakers" once recording starts.

PowerMac G5 OS X V10.5.5, Toast V9.0.2, CD Spin Doctor V5.0.1.617t

I'm having the exact same issue.
