No audio when capturing video

2Scotts

Question

Hi, Can someone please help me out. I am new to EMC 10 and I am trying to capture video from my DV camera. The video is on tape. The video captures good. I can hear the audio on my camera AND on my computer sound system, but there is no audio when I double click on a captured video segment.

I have read through the manual and help pages and it looks like the audio should be there.

I did read a previous post on this topic and it suggested being sure I am using firewire. I am using firewire and not USB.

Also, I was using a previous version of this software, Videowave Movie Creator, and it captured the audio just fine.

I moved up to this new product hoping it would have more features and better video quality. But now I have no audio!!!

Hi, Yes I was mistaken when I said I was using a SONY, it is in fact a Samsung.

One interesting thing I found out last night.

When I go to my hard drive through Explorer and I double click on a .avi file that I captured, Windows Media Player opens and plays the video WITH sound. This is very strange.

So the video is being captured with sound, but I do not have audio when I play the videos in the Videowave or the Media Import tool. Any ideas?

Did you check to make sure that the audio is not muted, in VideoWave? Do you uninstall the old VideoWave Movie Creator software you had?

You could try doing a repair of the software, through Add/Remove Programs. Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 Suite is the one to click on to repair. You click on Change, not Remove.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, sorry I have not responded sooner.

By the way, both of my dogs are Scotties... The girl is a Wheaton Scottie, and she is very small, only 14 pounds, but she is all Scottie! She was the runt of her litter. Aren't they great dogs!

Anyway, back to the issue, I found a solution!

As I said before, the .avi files on the hard drive have sound when I played them through Windows Media Player, but not when I played them in VideoWave. It turns out that the issue was I had the Roxio Media Import tool open at the same time I had VideoWave open. With the import tool not running, and only running VideoWave, the sound works, and I was able to make a test DVD with sound.

I do have an older 2003 Sound Blaster card that is adequate for my non-gaming desktop. The only thing I can figure is the capture tool and the VideoWave tool were conflicting with each other when trying to use the sound card, or the capture tool had the port or DMA channel locked.

Anyway, if I only run VideoWave OR the import tool by themselves everything works great, and has been working for about a week now. Keeping my fingers crossed the problem does not show up again.

Thank You for the help and suggestions...

It is generally recommended to shut down other applications when capturing or burning. You are almost guaranteed to have problems under those situations. Even while using Videowave only for editing I always disable other applications.

It';s almost certain that the socket on the graphics card is video out rather than video in

You would really need some form of capture card - even a PCI television card would do the job (and you can also watch TV on that as a bonus)

What video camera do you have? What process are you using to capture? What format are using for the file type when you capture? You should be capturing as .avi, not .mpeg.

Hi, Thank you for the reply.

I have a SONY DV camera, only one year old.

I am using the capture video tool in the Media import section of EMC10, via firewire.

I have tried both the .avi and .mpeg method - both have video but neither have audio.

I also tried the capture entire tape, and capturing only sections. Neither have audio.

Do you think it may be my sound card? I have a sound blaster and it worked with the Videowave Movie Creator before I upgraded to EMC10.

Any ideas?

What do you have for your setting for the audio input device? Make sure that it is enabled and not muted in Windows. I don't have that camera but there should be an option for audio imput from that camera.

Hi, Where do I check my setting for the audio input device?

I did check windows audio and it is not muted.

I can hear the sound on my camera AND through my computer speakers.

Your screen should look different since sknis is using a different device, I don't thinks its a camcorder at all since it refers to a Pninnacle device.

Interesting, when I use the DVC 90, I remember I had to select the audio device. Apparently, the camcorder works differently.

2Scotts, one of those is a Westie. I don't think they like to be called Scotties. Great dog.

And, the black one is a Scottie. :) We had two scotties a number of years ago. Great dogs, but they bark a lot.

Hi, My screen looks different. Maybe because a different camera type.

Here is what I see. I have no where to select an audio input for my video.

Does anyone have any idea what I am supposed to do ?....

You have the screen that you are supposed to have. You are connected via firewire, so you don't have a separate audio connection to your sound card.

I am curious though. Is your attachment what you see when you connect your Sony, or do you have some kind of Samsung capture device that you have your Sony connected to?

How have you connected your camera to your PC for capturing? If its not via Firewire connection its not going to work properly
