Glen711
I have done a clean install of EMC 10 on My Dell D810 running Windows Vista Ultimate with all updates applied. I am unable to run MyDVD. Attempts to run MyDVD tell me that I must activate the MPEG 2 component to use this program. If I click CANCEL, of course, the program closes. If I click OK, I -immediately- get a window pop up that says "No permission - bad installation". This happens whether I am connected to the Internet or not. This happens whether I run the program as an administrator or not. Could anyone point me in the right direction please? Thank you. Glen
ronrrm
Hate to re-open this thread...but I have the same problem with XP; It started after I updated my ATI 8500DEV drviers for a new widescreen monitor. Capture stoped working, so I tried a repair; nothing changed...so I did a clean uninstall/re-install...now I have the mpgeg-2 activation blues...oh yeah and capture obviously doesnt work either... What procedure was followed to actually end up with a 'clean' uninstall? I have the MS uninstaller, going to give that a try. Any help would be great... Beerman
Read this entire thread. I don't think you'll like all that you'll see as you shouldn't have this problem in v10 but I think only a correct clean install will work.
John at Roxio
I got a patch from support - but it didn't run. Glen Thats because the patch is for EMC 9. I'll take care of this internally. Thanks for making me aware of it.
Glen711
I got a patch from support - but it didn't run. In the same message, they sent me the "extended clean install" script - much like the "clean install" except you use the Windows Installer cleanup to remove the activation module, and you go through the registry and remove a lot more stuff (anything that says "Sonic" or "Roxio" in the key name.) I did that, and after I did that, everything, everything installed and worked correctly. Glen

CarlRoth
Thats because the patch is for EMC 9. I'll take care of this internally. Thanks for making me aware of it. I have the same activiation "No permission - Bad installation" error message and I've just completed my second "clean install" as per the script. I also ran RegCure to make sure. Other things that weren't working before are now, such as video import. I can bring in an MPEG but not edit it?? Roxio really needs to get on the ball for these install problems! Thanks! rossolson
Read this entire thread. I don't think you'll like all that you'll see as you shouldn't have this problem in v10 but I think only a correct clean install will work. I have the mpeg 2 activation problem. After much effort, I got emc 10 to install -- it had kept saying "insufficient disc space." I did a clean install with all the instructions given and it went through the complete installation and finished. But the "need to activate mpeg 2", "no permission" and "bad installation" message came up when I tried to start "capture". I had a message from tech support regarding emc 9 that there was a patch to be downloaded if there was trouble with mpeg 2. It is no longer available and I don't find one for emc 10. It seems that there should be. Is there? Will there be? Thanks. Ross Olson

Did you read the link I posted above and try what was mentioned? When you do the clean install, make sure you remove the Activation module using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Question
Thank you.
Glen
