Drives not 'recognized' by Easy CD Creator 5

Hi there!

just like DanDare I also have problems burning with Roxio 5 platinum. (On 2 computers)

I've updated it on both computers, but it still won't work!

Computer 1 has Windows ME and the burner is LITE-ON LTR-48246K and computer 2 has Windows XP and the burner is RICOH DVD+RW MP5240. (ID strings)

I can't burn at all with Roxio 5, no CD or DVD's.

When i want to try this, I'm getting the message :

There are no supported CD-recorders available.Ensure that your CD-recorder is powered on and that all

cables are properly connected.

Please..can someone tell me what to do??

I'll be very happy when the program is running on one of the two computers!

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Hello Alex,

I had your question moved from DanDare's topic to stand alone, since you have a different problem and there was too much QRM on the original thread.

With two sets of machine, operating system, and optical drives involved this might take some to-and-fro so please bear with me.

First question is what is your full version number? Run Creator in a data disc project, and then go to Help > About ECDC and a box should open showing the full version number.

Your Lite-On CD writer was first recognized by version 5.10h, and your Ricoh DVD writer was first recognized by version 5.34. If the version you're running is not equal to or higher than those numbers, your drives will not be recognized by the burning software. The final updater for ECDC5 was version 5.3.5.10, and it's available on Roxio's Software Updates pages.

If you have a version lower than 5.3.5.10 you should go get the Platinum 5.3.5 updater and apply it. You don't need the 'drive-up' patch, just the big updater.

Second, what version of Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player are you running on those machines? (Shouldn't be higher than I.E.6 or WMP 8)

IE7 and WMP9 or higher are known to cause big problems with Creator 5.

Regards,

Brendon

Hello Brendon,

thanks for your answer!

The full version number of mine Easy CD Creator is 5.3.5.10

Computer 1 is running with Windows XP and has IE 7 and WMP 11.

The second computer has the same version of Easy CD Creator and is running on Windows ME and has

IE6 an WMP9(I think, I must take a look tomorrow)

When I buy Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 for the first computer, it will work?

And is the CD Label Creator the same as in Roxio 5? (working with .jwl files?)

I hope you know enough...

Thanks again for your answer!

Greetings from Holland,

Alex

As Brendon is probably still asleep wayyy down in the land of the long white sheep-stealer, I'll pop in here:

ECD5 will run on XP, provided you uninstall IE7 and WMP11 first (both those are backports from Vista and make registry changes that knock out some programs). Also, there is a procedure for installing it and it has to be done in the correct order - see this post for how to

EMC 10 has had a slight problem on XP - make absolutely sure you install the patch before rebooting. Check this post for details

Actually Daithi, at the time you typed your post, it was 12:53 Sunday afternoon in the land of the Rings! :P

Thanks for sticking up for me Paul. It's nice to know a friend has my six.

Alex, I've never had trouble running version 5 in XP-SP2, since I never update IE or WMP. It runs very sweetly and doesn't need to be "persuaded" at all.

I'm speaking to you from my EMC10 system [voice echoes strangely as if he was in a very small room rather than shouting out from EMC10]. I went there to check and see for you - there's nothing beats actually trying these things.

I had no trouble opening up version 5 and 6 .JWL files in EMC10, so that should be fine. If your computer is up to the required specifications EMC 10 should run on it. Check the requirements on the Roxio site before you buy it.

Regards,

Brendon

Actually the minimum specs are a total joke - they try to say it will run on a 500 MHz CPU which all of us here know it won't - go for a 2 GHz CPU and a dedicated graphics card (onboard graphics have been very problematic)

Brendon and I do tend to poke things at each other at times - only because their rugby team always manages to beat ours (except for the time they thought that the Munster rugby team was the same as an English county one and got severely clobbered)

And hey - I did put the polite version up (not the usual one from the Land of Oz) :P

I see you've still got that moth-eaten dog as your avatar, Daithi

Actually, after the World Rugby Cup debacle I was going to get you to deflate that ball we lost and left in front of the Eiffel Tower. It was a bit embarrassing to leave it there.

And Hey! We are different from those blokes in the big red flat place where they call their beer XXXX because they can't spell it. :)

Regards,

Brendon
