Easy Audio Capture

Rob_C

Question

I cannot set the audio recording level by selecting the auto button. I just installed Roxio Media Creator 10 and it worked at first and when I went to record again from my sound card the auto button is grayed out. Should I un-install and re-install? I am trying to capture audio from an internet radio station.

Any help would be gratly appreciated.

Are you seeing the bars moving as you try to capture?Make sure that you have the correct input set,it may have gotten changed. If there's no input I think the button would be greyed out.

yes I can see the bars moving...and there is nothing to select from the input dropdown, it just turns blue

Nothing in the dropdown would make that happen.Don't know why the bars would move if there's no input.

XP or Vista? What kind of machine?Built in sound or add in sound card?

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card installed.

Windows XP ....Sound Card - Sound Blaster Audigy 2 THX Certified Sound Card with DVD Audio for Dimension. I have added Logitec surround sound speakers, but I don't know if that matters.

In the Input, you should be seeing "What U Hear". If you don't, then your input on your main volume controls has changed.

Double click on the speaker icon, in the tray, at the bottom right of your screen. Click on Options, then click on Properties, then click on Recording. Make sure the What U Hear is checked in the boxes that show up, then click on OK.

Put a check in the Select box below What U Hear, then click on the X, in the upper right corner, to get out.

I double clicked the speaker icon and get the Surround Mixer ( I am using a surround sound system from Logitec) does that make a difference., but there are no options to select. i remember seeing the option for "What You Hear" but I don't know where. It may have been when I first installed Roxio 10, but not sure.

Where else could I look for the option to select "What You Hear"?

i dowloaded the latest patch from Creative for the speaker system.

I don't know how it is possible, but the software you loaded for your Logitec surround sound mixer has overriden the Audigy sound system.

Try this. I don't know if it will work though. In Control Panel, click on the Sound and Audio Devices icon. First, what does it show for the sound device on the Volume tab? It will show up as a logo in the upper left part of the that screen.

Anyway, click on the Audio tab, then see if you have choices for the Default playback device. If the Audigy is one of the options, select that, then click on Apply.

On the sound playback the Volume Tab says SB Audigy Audio DF00 and the Default playback under the Audio Tab says SB Audigy Audio DF00 and Modem #2 Line Playback

Well your defaults are right, I believe. Just to clarify, the Modem #2 Line Playback is an option in the dropdown box?

The next thing that I would do is look in the Logitech software to see if there is something that allows you to set the recording to the Audigy selections.

I have no clue how a surround system software would control the Audigy card, but it evidentally does. Just keep trying things, and post what you find, in this thread.

You might just uninstall the Audigy(software and drivers) and then reinstall it from the cd.After that if you try and update it try and use the Auto Update function on Creatives site and only download what comes up.I also have never seen that.Usually the sound card is what controls everything.

What Logitech speakers are those? You got them from Creative?

It's working now. I see "What You Hear" in the input box and I can select the Auto Recording Level.

I went to Creative media Source site and dowloaded the critical updates for my sound card. One of them had to do with the site that allows Roxio to find the sonf information such as artist, name of song etc. That may have had something to do with the issues I was having.

Nonetheless, it is working now. I hope that it was a matter of updates, but it was still troubling that Roxio application did not give any error msg or any suggestions as to what was wrong. There was nothing in help or in the manual that would give me any indication of what I should start with in terms of troubleshooting the problem.

anyway, thanks for all of your help, it was useful in determining what I needed to check and disevt the problem.

High fives to you for getting it worked out, and high fives to Terry for steering you in the right direction!

I have the Audigy 2 Platinum card and bay unit, but I haven't experienced the problem you had.

Glad you got it working.

I just have the Audigy 2 but I also have never seen this happen.Weird that speaker software would mess with your soundcard.

Oh well, you got it working and that's the main thing.Job well done and thanks to Bruce for the help.
