"Error Checking Status"

Alanandlyn

Question

I'm getting an error message - "error checking status" when I am preparing an incremental backup of a NAS attached device. Any idea what the cause might be? I unchecked 'validate source files before backing up' and got it to flag the drive as 'backup needed'. Now I get a "error checking status" error. Do I need to start again with a non incremental backup? Such a waste of DVD's.

I wouldn't even try to guess what application or utility you are trying to use (of the 32 or so available in the EMC 9 Suite). Is it Creator Classic? BOT? BUMP? Perhaps a little more information to start with would be helpful.

Sorry, I'm new to Roxio and this forum....didn't realise it was so complex. I'm using Roxio Backup, created a project for my photograph drive on the NAS with a monthly incremental backup schedule following the initial full backup. One incremental worked fine, now I get this error. The message is pretty meaningless so just wanted some pointers as to what the cause might be.

Perhaps it is just the server/computer interface. This suite of programs won't work on servers. It probably allowed you to create the original file but cannot access the server to edit /update it.

It worked on a different directory on the same device. It would help if the error message said something meaningful.

You're trying to backup network drives - it won't work as it was never designed to do that

OK Thanks for all the comments. I accept what you're saying about Network Storage but still don't understand why it works OK on another directory on the same device.

Anyone have a recommendation for a product that will backup a Linksys to DVD?

Check the folder permissions on the two folders (the one that works and the one that doesn't). Also check for any hidden files and folders

Routers usually just backup their data in a small file on whatever computer you use to access it from and you can burn that to a CD (a bit of a waste), a floppy, memory stick or whatever
