Question

I have 9.0554 Easy CD and DVD Burning

and have been having trouble with a Sony software Digital Voice Editor 3.0, after 150 CD and 8 tec people

I was told to download Roxio newest download, When I doing it in Roxio Easy CD & DVD burning it tells me to contact the vendor. When I go to the Roxio website there is no listing for this software?

This is in a Red box but it does not say Vista comparable, my operating system is XP.

Can someone please help.

The roxio program works fine but there is some type of conflict with the sony software.

"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

Now What??

Hi Denny,

Get a beverage of some sort and some sandwiches or similar - this could be a long night :(

Actually, I'm suspecting that the install/uninstall might have upset some of Microsoft's filter arrangements and that prevents Windows from seeing the drive(s). This happens from time to time with burning programs (Roxio, Nero, etc) and isn't just a Roxio thing. I don't know what causes it to happen [neither do they] but it does tend to happen when you're stressed with other problems.

Can you open Device Manager please, [rt click on My computer > Properties > Hardware >Device Manager] and then click the + sign alongside the CD/DVD icon. Are there any warning signs or exclamation marks shown there, or your drive(s) missing?

Can you read a CD in your drive? If you have two drives, can you read a CD in both?

Regards,

Brendon

DennyG,

You do have the vista compatible Easy CD and DVD Burning. 90554 is the latest version.

There are no updates for this software so it isn't registered with the software updates service at FLEXnet Connect, hence the strange message you get. If you ask the Software Manager to check for updates you should get this reply

post-208-1196636442.jpg

[You would have thought a simple "No updates found" would do the trick, but it's hard to get good help these days :) ]

This software contains these 4 audio programs (see small box near bottom left) and it looks like your Sony Voice Editor is incompatible with one or more of them, so something has to give.

post-208-1196637263.jpg

I favor Daithi's suggestion of removing the Sony Editor which is conflicting, and then reinstalling Easy CD and DVD Burning to repair any damage. But if you really want to keep the Sony stuff you can go to Add/Remove programs in Windows' Control Panel, select Roxio Easy CD and DVD Burning, click on Change, and un-check Sound Editor.

That might do the trick, though I can't guarantee anything since I don't have the Sony editor to try it with.

Brendon

I will give this a try tomorrow, I have spent another 4 hours with sony, nothing but a bunch of BS.

I'm ready to give up. But your reply sound and looks like I should give it another try, If I didn't need to add these voice files to CD I would have quite 30 days ago.

And save myself a lot of S&A .

Thanks

Denny G.

Sense codes are USUALLY caused by the type of media used or the burner.....as a test, try burning a file using the built in burning of XP (use a RW, then you can erase it later).

I am sure Brendon will drop in later, with some more ideas.

Hi Denny,

It's not usual to quote the whole reply since it's just above your message :)

It seems there's a lot of troublesome Sony software around. Please let us know how you get on.

Brendon

Brandon

I did the Add/Remove programs in Windows' Control Panel, select Roxio Easy CD and DVD Burning, click on Change, and un-check Sound Editor.

Then restarted the lap top and started the Sony Digital Voice Editor and still when the cd that I was trying to burn got to 52% the error message came up.

I was un the phone again with tec for another 3 hours and I told the girl I give up.

The juice ain't worth the squeeze.

If the box didn't say 'Vista Compatible' then you almost certainly have a re-release of Easy CD 6 - you can check this by opening any app (Creator Classic would do fine) and click on Help, About - let us know what version number it says there

Sorry - missed the 9.0 in the first line and it would seem you do have EMC9. However, this is a cut-down version of the full EMC9 suite (and there are no updates for it). Apart from that the update for 9.0 to 9.1 was only to address problems that occured in Vista and wouldn't help you much here

I've no experience with the Sony s/w you mention but there could well be a clash between the two programs (and I'm not going to try passing this one back as the other crowd seem intent on doing). Have you tried uninstalling the Sony program to see if the EMC problem clears? You may need to do a repair install after doing that, but if EMC works, then you can re-install the Sony one and see if that works (sometimes conflicts are fixed like that - it seems to depend on the order of installation)

Again, I'm not sure what is included in the Red Box variant of EMC9 but the full program does have audio capture and editing as well as mp3 conversion

How do I do what you asked?try "burning a file using the built in burning of XP (use a RW, then you can erase it later)."

Can you walk me through it

Thanks Denny

Go to Start>Help and Support>type in the Search "make a cd" (without the quotes), and follow directions.

I hope it goes well.

The reason for uninstalling and then reinstalling the Roxio program is to repair any files or settings which were trodden on by the Sony program.

What form are the Sony voice files? It might be possible to convert them with the Roxio sound editor.

Brendon

I did what you asked

In My Computer, double-click the CD recording drive. Windows displays a temporary area where the files are held before they are copied to the CD. Verify that the files and folders that you intend to copy to the CD appear under Files Ready to be Written to the CD. I received a message

" D:\ is not accessible Incorrect function"

:(

Hi Denny,

If you get the Roxio software working okay without the Sony software, you'll need something to convert those DVF files to MP3.

There's a "Switch Sound Format Converter" available free here which they say will convert a whole bunch of formats to WAV or MP3, including

* wav, mp3, mp2, mpga,

* m4a, ogg, avi, mid

* flac, aac, wma, dct,

* au, aiff, ogg, raw,

* msv, dvf, vox, cda,

* atrac, gsm, dss, sri

* shn, dss, msv, wmv

* wav, mp3, au

* aif/aiff, gsm, vox

* raw, ogg, flac

* aac, mp2, m4a,

* .mov, .amr

* and many more formats.

Apparently it's free because they hope you will want to buy their deluxe version, but it might be worth trying to see if it will do what you want without disabling other programs. It's Australian, but I won't hold that against it :lol:

Anyway, that's just a thought while you are struggling with this particular problem.

Regards,

Brendon
